Late night trouble
Summary: Temari woke Shikamaru up in the middle of the night because she couldn't sleep. What would our lazy genius do?
Disclaimer: Sadly, I do not own Naruto or any of its characters.
"Shika…" Poke.
"Shika-kun…" Poke, poke.
"Shikamaru…." Poke, poke and poke.
"…What woman?"
"You're awake?"
"…No."
The genius received a hard thump in the head. Wincing, he sat up and glared at his wife.
Said wife huffed cutely in return. "I can't sleep!" whined out Temari, tugging at the sleeve of Shikamaru's shirt.
He groaned out loud and grabbed the alarm clock that was placed on his bedside. It was 2 in the morning and the jounin strategist had to attend a council meeting with the Hokage later on that day.
"Alright, you troublesome woman. What do you want me to do about it?" he inquired, placing the clock back on the table.
Temari shrugged and he sighed.
"Oh!" exclaimed Temari, her face lighting up like a bulb. "Tell me a story!"
He raised an eyebrow incredulously. She sent him a dirty look, her dark teal eyes narrowing. "A story. NOW."
He sighed again and rested comfortably against his pillow. "Once upon a time there lived a carefree man. He disliked change. He wanted to spend the rest of his life just by watching clo—" His wife raised a suspicious eyebrow. "...uh, birds."
Temari smiled and snuggled closer to him. "Then?" she asked, wanting to hear more of the 'story'.
"Then…everything in his world turned upside down." He glanced in amusement as Temari got curious. "Why?"
"He met a woman."
A snort came from the blond.
He frowned. "What?"
"Really? A woman? Sounds like this guy's much of a crybaby like you are." She teased.
Shikamaru rolled his eyes. "Do you want to hear the story or not?"
"Okay, okay, go ahead."
"Thank you. So as I was saying, he met this woman. She was very scary, very loud. She bossed him around, demanding change everywhere."
"What happened?" asked Temari drowsily, feeling sleep enter her system.
"At first, they hated each other. They would fight and fight and fight every time they meet." He smirked. "They've caused quite a blunder."
"Did they ever…get along?" murmured the girl beside him. She stifled a yawn as he continued his story. Chuckling, he draped an arm around her.
"Surprisingly, they did. The guy found her bossiness and tough exterior quite charming, so he paid her more attention. When he stopped being such an ass to her, she immediately found herself liking him back." A soft smile appeared on his tired face.
"Both of them realized...that no matter how different they were, like day and night…they shared something special." Gentle snoring made him stop and turn to her. He grimaced as he saw her eyes shut and dozing off on him. "Troublesome woman…" he muttered, kissing the top of her head. He pulled the covers higher over their bodies.
"They realized that no matter how much they fight…they will always love one another." He smiled and closed his eyes. "I love you…Temari. Good night."
The end.
