A/N: For my Edward obsessed friend England-Rachel! Happy Birthday Rachel!
Race Of Life:
Edward Cullen and Jacob Black would never get on. This fact was as clear as the sky was blue. Though maybe in rainy Forks this wasn't the best comparison, however, their hate of each other was clear. It wasn't just their species separation that made them enemies, their love for the same girl, Bella Swan, also fed the hate. The fact that Edward left Bella and ruined her life fed the hate Jacob had for Edward. Edward was jealous of how close Jacob and Bella had become while he was away, which caused him to hate Jacob even more.
'There's only one way to settle this' Jacob said, jumping off his motorbike in front of Edward.
'Oh yeah?' replied Edward sceptically 'And what's that then?'
'A race' said Jacob 'My bike vs your car'
Edward laughed 'That's actually funny, dog' He caught Edward's expression and laughed again 'You're serious aren't you?'
'Don't diss the little things, leech' said Jacob.
'When and where?' Edward asked, now as seriously as Jacob.
'12 hours time. Here. A 12 mile race. First there wins' Jacob replied.
'You win and I won't complain when you see Bella. I win and you have to get over her and leave her alone' said Edward.
Jacob was about to argue, but he didn't want it to look like he was worried about losing so agreed.
'See you then' Edward said and droved off looking over confident.
The time of the race arrived quickly. Edward had wanted to go to the race alone but his family wouldn't let him. In the end he gave in and let lice ('I'll have to see how it goes, since the dog is stopping me seeing beforehand') and Jasper ('I'll be able to keep you calm throughout it') go with him, while Jacob had Billy waiting for him at the finishing line.
'Ready?' Jacob asked, revving up his bike.
'Ready' confirmed Edward.
The bike and the car sped off. Jasper's calmness was the only thing causing Edward to relax, while nothing helped Jacob relax and the determination to beat the leech drove him to ride slightly faster than he felt safe riding. Throughout the race Jacob had a lead so slight it was almost impossible to tell. He accelerated even more as the finishing line drew closer, his bike and Edward's car were both going at their fastest speeds. Jacob took a noticeable lead over the finishing line and parked sideways, before jumping off. Jacob was only just off the bike when Edward's car came, at an uncontrollable speed, towards it. Edward turned the car to avoid the bike, causing him to lose control of it. The car went crashing into a nearly tree, and instantly burst into flames.
'EDWARD!' Alice's scream went right over Jacob's head; he barely even heard it. Before Jacob even had time to think about moving Alice and Jasper were by the car, trying to control the flames to save Edward. By the time Alice and Jasper had been able to get close enough to the car to do anything it was too late.
A pile of ashes lay where Edward Cullen had sat.
