"Yui-senpai!"

Akira rushed towards his friend where he stood outside the school, absently staring out at the rugby pitch. The small first year had to push through the crowd of chattering students carefully, shielding what he was carrying as if he was carrying a rugby ball, about to score a try. His hands were horribly sweaty by the time he reached his closest friend.

"Good morning, Yui senpai!" Akira beamed into Yui's face, snapping the older boy out of his reverie. "I got these for you!"

Trembling slightly, Akira brought out the small bunch of home grown flowers from where he was protecting them in his blazer. He thrust them towards Yui's befuddled face and blushed furiously.

"Akira, what…?" Yui took them carefully, looking from their petals to Akira's gaze.

"It's valentine's day," Akira explained, still clearly embarrassed, "so I thought I might… wait, hold on…"

Akira reached into his pocket and pulled out a bunch of cards, trying hard not to cower under the intensity of Yui's gaze. "Makoto-senpai said this would – oh no!" he had fumbled with the cards, and dropped half of them at Yui's feet. Quickly, he snatched them up again.

Oh no, now they're in the wrong order…

"So, what are you doing then?" Yui's voice snapped Akira back to reality, and he swallowed. His throat suddenly seemed very dry.

"So um… Did you fall out of heaven because-" Akira let out a small squeak as he dropped the cards once more, he was too busy trying desperately not to meet Yui's eyes. "Oh god oh god uh… I just wanted to say that… You're really, really pretty and nice and I like you a lot and-" in his desperation to find the right card again, Akira tripped forward and banged his forehead on Yui's chin, sending them both reeling. "Ahhh I'm so sorry Yui-senpai, I'm so sor-"

But Akira's terrified babbling was cut short by the finger that lifted up his chin and brought his mouth up to meet Yui's. Akira let out a small gasp and clumsily bumped his nose into Yui's, his eyes wide and staring at Yui's face. Yui's slightly chapped overlapped Akira's own dry ones, and his breath warmed his mouth in an alien, unfamiliar way.

He was kissing Yui-senpai. That was the thought that was racing around Akira's brain, as his heart rate increased and he stood up on tiptoe to reach better. He felt Yui's other hand steady him around the waist so he wouldn't fall again, and he giggled slightly against the other's lips, bumping against Yui's face once more.

"What's so funny?" asked Yui, pulling away just enough to meet Akira's eyes. He was smiling, Akira noticed.

"Nothing," Akira said, "I'm just so happy…" and he was too, to Yui, he looked light sunlight was streaming out through every pore. His cheeks and ears were still bright red, and he looked slightly giddy, but at that moment Akira couldn't have been more lovable.

Yui pulled him back again in order to plant a kiss on his forehead, before heading towards the school gates, Akira's bunch of flowers in his hands.

"Akira," he said, looking back, "I'll see you after practice."

"I-I-I-" Akira stammered, hastily shuffling through his handwritten cards in order to find some guidance, "I don't have a card for that…"

But Yui just laughed and held out his hand, grabbing Akira's and pulling him gently along into school as boyfriends, side by side.
