Well, this was it. Back to New York. Home. Back to safety, family and familiarity.
But away from Magnus.
His love.
Alec couldn't take it.
"Are you coming, or what?" Jace was impatient. He wanted to get home, back to Clary. He didn't understand that if Alec walked through that Portal, then he would probably never see Magnus again.
He would have missed his chance.
Taking a deep breath, Alec took a step into the Portal.
"Sweet pea!"
Alec's heart stopped. He'd only been called that once before. Smirking, he called out behind his shoulder.
"Still doesn't work, Magnus."
He felt a hand grab his shoulder and jerk him backwards, out of the Portal. Strong arms caught him as he fell, making him smile.
"Works for me," Magnus purred, gripping Alec tight.
Jace smirked and shook his head. "Everything works for you."
"That's true."
Without a word, Alec turned around and nuzzled his face into Magnus' neck. He smelled like sandalwood.
Jace sighed. "I guess I'll go on home, then. You're obviously going to be staying in Alicante for a while." He hopped through the Portal and disappeared in an instant.
In the silence, Magnus grabbed Alec's chin and lifted his face to his own.
"So, how shall we spend our evening?"
Alicante was alive at night. It seemed that very Shadowhunter was out in the square, enjoying the music and food. Witchlights were at every street corner, causing the night air to glow softly. It looked like a fairytale.
"So, what made you come back?" Alec asked as he gripped Magnus' hand tighter.
They turned down a side street, away from the crowds. Alec didn't know where they were going, but Magnus did. Normally he didn't like surprises, but tonight, he didn't seem to care. As long as he was with Magnus, he was happy.
"There were many reasons that I came back, Alexander," Magnus said, turning a corner.
"What were-" A courtyard came into view before them and Alec's mouth dropped open. Witchlights hanging from wires, draped along trees. Bushes covered with bright flowers. It was gorgeous.
The soft sound of violins wafted about as Magnus pulled Alec towards a fountain that sat in the middle of the courtyard. Alec was so mesmerized by the sight, that for a moment, he didn't say anything. He just stared around, taking it all in.
Feeling the touch of a hand on his face, he jumped.
Magnus chuckled. "You are so full of wonder." He rubbed Alec's cheek. "It's adorable." Alec blushed. Shaking his head, his thoughts came back together.
"You said there were many reasons you came back…what were they?"
Magnus' cat eyes glowed. "Alright, I lied. There was only one reason."
"Which was?"
Magnus rolled his eyes. "You stupid Nephilim, when will you get it through your thick head?"
Without warning, Magnus grabbed Alec's waist and pulled him close. Fitting Magnus' mouth with his, Alec was back in New York again. Back before he had talked with Camille. Back when they were happy.
Alec twirled his fingers through Magnus' hair. Heat snaked up his back as Magnus ran his hands under his shirt. Alec leaned into him, deepening his kiss. He hadn't realized how much his body had missed Magnus. Missed his touch.
They fit together perfectly. They always had.
"Aku cinta kamu," Magnus whispered against his lips. Alec smiled, kissing him again.
"That means you love me."
"Exactly."
