"Rose" my older sister yelled at me. "Hurry up." "Im going as fast as I can" I responded. "She's going as fast as her short little legs can" my older brother joked. "Hey that's not nice and I'm not short I'm like two inches shorter then you and the same height as Jane" I complained. "I'm taller then you" Jane said defensively. "By an inch" I mumbled. "A whole two inches shorter" my brother teased. "I'm a year younger" I responded. "If anything you're the short one" I teased. "Am not" he responded. "Are too" I said.

"Am not"

"Are too"

"Am not"

"Are too"

"Am-"

"ALEC! ROSE! ENOUGH" Jane shouted at us. Jane has always been the 'boss' of the group but I still love her to pieces. Jane and Alec are my siblings and best friends. We always felt like triplets even though I am a year younger then them. I'm 15 and their 16. Sometimes they treat me like I'm five though, they are way to over-protective. "Lets just walk to the stands and get some apples" she said. "Fine" me and Alec mumbled together. We continued walking in silence until we walked right in front of the market. It was just a bunch of stands lining a dirt road with a bunch of people running around trying to sell and buy things. I could see the hesitation in Jane's face. I love Jane and Alec but that doesn't mean that anyone else does. There have been rumors that they were witches. I know that's not true but these people will accuse anyone of being a witch if anyone so much as trips near that person. I know that there was some evidence like one time this girl said that I was ugly and the next day her parents died of sickness and left her an orphan. I know that's harsh but it's the 800th century, everybody gets sick and it had nothing to do with Jane and Alec but nobody believed that. "Are you okay my dear sister" Alec asked Jane seeing the same hesitation. "I'm fine" she said putting her head up high and walking through the crowd to the apple stand. Me and Alec followed behind her and tried to keep up. As I looked around I could see everyone's stares of disgust towards Jane and Alec and everybody's looks of pity towards me. They all think that Jane and Alec are like keeping me captive or something like that. I hate it. I love Jane and Alec more then life itself and they think that there just forcing me to stay with them. It's so frustrating. And even if it was true then why aren't they helping me. Their the real witches.

We got to the apple stand and I could see the person that owed the cart (which was a grown man) shrink back in fear before putting on a brave face and standing up straight. If I saw it Jane saw it too. "Hi" Jane said smiling. "I'll take one sack of apple's" Jane said as politely as she could. The salesman warily bent down and grabbed a sack of apples before tossing them on the counter. "That'll be one silver" he said in a rough voice and a smirk on his face. "What" Jane asked confused. "I thought it was five coppers" she said. "It's my store, it's whatever I want it to be" he said smugly. Jane was trying to keep her cool but I knew she was about to pop. Alec knew too because suddenly Jane was being pulled away from the stand and out of the market with me hot on her tail. We walked to the outside of the market just in time for Jane to explode. "WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS! SAYING THAT HE CAN JUST CHANGE THE PRICE WHENEVER HE FEELS LIKE IT OR TO WHOEVER HE WANTS! ITS JUST! UHHH! I CANT BELIEVE IT! WHY WOULD HE DO THAT!" she yelled with fire burning in her icy blue eyes.

That's another thing I forgot to mention, my mother has golden blonde hair and green eyes and my father has black hair and brown eyes. I have golden blonde hair and green eyes just like my mother but Alec and Jane have icy blue eyes and pale brown hair. People think they're witches born from an affair. That's why my father hates them. My mother's to weak to stand up for them so she goes along with his hate. That's just another reason why were so close, it's just us three against the world.

"Jane it's okay calm down" Alec said in a soothing voice. Jane closed her eyes and grabbed my hand. She took deep breaths and when she opened her eyes she looked more controlled. Alec and I are the only things that can calm down the flame that is Jane. Jane slowly turned towards me and I knew what she was going to say before she even asked. "Im not going back there, we'll find another stand" I said hoping to convince her. "Rose please for Alec and I, just go back there, put on a puppy dog face, asked for some apples and come back" Jane asked. I could see her begging me with her eyes. I sighed and walked back there. He gave me then with no problem (except for the looks of pity and me wanting to slap him in the face).

"I don't see why he didn't do that in the first place" I grumbled from my place in between Alec and Jane. Alec was holding my right hand and Jane was holding my left with the apples in her other hand. "You know why" Jane said quietly. They tried to shield me from as much as they could but at the end of the day I knew it all. They did stuff like that because they didn't want them to come back. They didn't want to be associated with 'The Witch Twins'. I hate to admit it but I'm surprised the priest hasn't came to burn them at the stake yet. That's my worse nightmare. I was pulled out of my thoughts because I felt like I was being watched. I looked around but saw nobody. We were going down a secluded path in the woods to get back to our cottage. As I was looking I locked eyes with Alec and knew he was feeling the same thing. We both looked to Jane and saw her head turned away from us looking around. When she turned back she gave us a look and we instantly knew what she meant, 'Do you guys feel that?' Alec nodded slightly and started to look around again. When he turned back we could tell that he didn't see anything so Jane just shrugged and looked forward. I could tell that she wanted us to forget about it but I couldn't.

We continued the short walk home and when we got there dinner was already ready. We cleaned up and sat at the table. My father Mark sat at the head of the table while my mother Katie and I sat on the right side of the table with Jane and Alec on the left. "How was your day" my mother asked my father. "Fine, we caught one deer and two turkeys" he said in a gruff voice. "Rose darling how was your day" my father asked me. "Fine, I went with Jane and Alec to the market and got fresh apples for the horses" I said plainly. My father just nodded and went back to eating completely ignoring the fact that Jane and Alec existed. "By the way tomorrow their doing a witch burning so were going, got it?" my father asked even though it wasn't a question, we were going whether we wanted to are not. I hate the witch burnings. I'll never forget the first one I ever attended. I can't get the smell of burning flesh and the pleads of the poor girl out of my mind no matter how much I tried. Jane and Alec would usually put me in the middle of them covering my eyes with one hand and holding my hand with the other. It didn't help much but I appreciated the thought. "Got it" mother answered. The rest of dinner was spent in silence and soon it was time for bed.

We live in a small cottage with only two 'bedrooms'. I say it like that because its really just two attachments to the house the have an open arch for the door and nothing but beds inside. The beds were just large pieces of fabric stuffed with hay. Alec, Jane, and I share a room. Jane and Alec share a bed while I get my own. They're fine with it though. I changed into my night gear and got into bed. "Goodnight" me, Alec, and Jane said at the same time. I soon feel into a restless sleep.

…Two Weeks Later…...

My worst nightmare has come true. It all started this morning.

"Rose, Rose, wake up" the panicky voice of Jane brought me out of my slumber. "Jane what is the matter" I asked my sister while sitting up and rubbing my eyes. "Do you remember that salesman with the apples" she whispered looking around the room as if someone was going to barge in. "Yes" I answered confused. "Well…" Jane said hesitantly as if she was afraid of my reaction which I didn't understand at all because I'll always be on her side. "He was run over with a carriage and all the people that were at the market said they saw us there and…well…there's a lot of evidence so…" Jane stopped talking but I instantly knew what she meant. They were going to burn her and Alec. I froze for a second but quickly recovered. "No" I whispered. "Alec and I have too leave" she said sadly. "Give me five minutes and I'll be ready" I said about to get up before Jane stopped me. "No Rose, Alec and I are leaving, you're staying, Alec will be back to say goodbye in a couple of minutes, he's just getting the horses ready" Jane said trying to keep the emotion off of her face but failing miserably. "No, I'm coming" I protested. "You don't want this life" Jane said. "You and Alec are my life" I replied tears welling up in my eyes. Jane sighed. "I can't convince you otherwise" she asked but more like said. I just shook my head no. "Fine, hurry up" she said letting me get out of bed to change and gather my belongings. "Pack light and be quiet to not wake mother and father" Jane said. This finally made me think of my parents. I was leaving them and this life behind. I realized I didn't care as much as I should have. I packed lightly and followed Jane out of the house. I passed my parents bedroom and looked at them one last time. "Come on" Jane whispered to me. I followed silently out of the house.

We made it to the stables where all of our horses were and I saw Alec standing next to his black horse Midnight. "Jane you brought Rose" he asked surprised. "Did you really think you could leave me" I said. He just hugged me. "Hurry up, let's go" Jane said grabbing her tan horse Jasmine. I grabbed my white horse Ella and got on to ride her and off we went.

We were riding for a few minutes before Alec suddenly stopped. "What's the matter" Jane and me asked at the same time. "I forgot my stuff" Alec said sheepishly. "What" Jane said, her anger and annoyance very present. "I'm sorry, I'll go back quickly" he said already turning his horse around. Jane sighed before turning to me. "Meet you at the forest edge" she said turning around after Alec giving me a smile. "Be careful" I said before turning around.

I was riding for a little before stopping. I got a really bad feeling all of a sudden. I turned around and to my horror I saw smoke fill the air. I turned suddenly and made my horse rush back to the village. This can't be happening.

So here I am now rushing into the village hoping that what I'm thinking isn't happening. I see a huge crowd around the place where the witches are burned and jump off my horse. I pushed past the crowd and tried to make it to the front. When I finally make it all my nightmares have become reality.

Standing in front of me is Jane and Alec tied to a stake with fire under them and the priest right in front. I know he's talking but I can't hear a word he says. I'm too focused on Jane and Alec. I'm too focused on the fire licking at their feet trying to consume them whole. I'm too focused on Alec's pleads for help and Jane's emotionless face. I'm finally snapped out of my daze when Jane looks me in the eye and lets her emotions slip. She was still saying nothing but her eyes begged for help.

"JANE! ALEC! STOP! SOMEONE! PLEASE! STOP!" I yelled running forward only to be pulled back and into someone. When I turned around I saw my father and my mother. "FATHER! THANK THE GODS! YOU HAVE TO HELP THEM! COME ON" I screamed to him over the cheering crowd. "Shh, it's okay Rose darling. It will all be over soon" he said to me still holding on. I was confused before he started cheering with the rest of the crowd. Oh no. He's with them. He wanted this. I suddenly felt sick. I turned around and started screaming again trying to get out of his grasp. "HELP! PLEASE! LET THEM GO! THERE NOT WITCHES! JANE! ALEC! SOMEONE! PLEASE!" I was trashing and sobbing at the end of my pleads. I knew they wouldn't work but some part of me hoped they would. I couldn't lose them. I turned to mother to see her standing quietly with no emotion on her face. "MOTHER! PLEASE! HELP THEM!" she just stayed silent and refused to meet my eye. "Rose calm down" my so called father said. "HOW COULD YOU! HOW COULD YOU! THEY'RE YOUR CHILDREN! THEY'RE YOUR CHILDREN!" I yelled to him still trying to break out of his hold. "LET ME GO! LET ME GO! PLEASE! I HAVE TO SAVE THEM! I HAVE TO SAVE THEM!" I looked at Jane and Alec and even with my tears I could see them starring at me.

Their eyes were a mix of fear and horror but I could tell the horror was for me. They didn't want me watching them. This is why I needed to save them. They were the only people that even when they were being burned at the stake would be worried about me.

"JANE! ALEC! PLEASE! PLEASE! STOP!" I yelled again but just ended up sobbing. I was thrashing around trying to get loose while still staring at Jane and Alec. The fire was practically consuming them all the way to there hips. I had to get to them now or they wouldn't survive. I was screaming and begging again before I realized that something else was wrong. Then I heard the crowd screaming. Not cheering, screaming.

I turned around but everyone was going crazy so I didn't know what was wrong. I turned back around to see two people wearing cloaks going towards Jane and Alec. I can't see their faces but I think there saving them! My father let me go but I didn't even turn around to see why.

"JANE! AL-" I started to scream but didn't get to finish because I felt something cold grab my arm and something sharp pierce the skin on my neck. I didn't know what was happening but it hurt. I started to feel something warm flow into my body. I'm so confused. Where's Jane and Alec? What's happening? Why does it burn? Wait. Burn! It's burning. That warm feeling was gone and replaced with a burning sensation. I felt myself being dropped to the ground. Did someone throw me in the fire? OW! It hurts. It burns. Make it stop. Make it stop! I need Jane and Alec.

These were my last coherent thoughts. All I could think about was the pain.

…..…Three Days Later…...

The pain was unbearable. It flowed all through out my body. I didn't know how long I had been. It could've been one minute or one year. It was finally diming down but the liquid was going towards one place. My heart. It was cold everywhere except for there. My heart was burning worse then the rest of my body had been. I could feel it beating fast. Faster then it ever had. Then it stopped. The pain stopped too. Was I dead? Was that what I had to go through to get into heaven? I decided to open my eyes.

Wow! I opened my eyes to see everything and by that I mean everything. I could see the dust in the air and the cracks in the roofs. I sat up trying to remember what happened. Then it hit me like a brick. Alec and Jane. Where were they? Are they still alive? Am I? I stood up and look around and for the first time I noticed the dead bodies of all the villagers. "Mother, Father" I said looking down at them lying lifelessly on the ground. That's when I noticed my voice. It was so clear and soft. It sounded like an angel. I turned and carefully walked towards the stakes. I looked around with my new eyesight but just knew they weren't there. That's when I smelled something that made my throat burn. It felt like I haven't drank anything in one hundred years. I ran towards that smell temporarily forgetting about Jane and Alec. I didn't even realize how fast I ran. I saw a traveler with his cart walking down the road. I didn't even realize what I was doing until I was done. I carefully set the dead body down and wiped the blood from my mouth. What have I done. I killed that poor innocent man. I'm a monster.

Suddenly I heard something coming from the bushes. I followed my weird new instincts and got in a crouched position. A handsome young man with pale skin, blonde hair, and gold eyes came out of the trees. "I mean no harm" he said in and angelic voice holding his hands up. "Who are you" I demanded once again shocked from my voice.

"I am Carlisle. Carlisle Cullen."
