Prologue

She stood on the crowded platform in Tokyo waiting for the train so she could get to school. Her iPod Touch was in a case on a band like the ones joggers wear around their hips, the speakers playing Fall Out Boy for everyone to hear.

As the train approached, she was jostled and felt something hard poking her in the side. She turned, figuring it was due to the overcrowded conditions, when she realized there was a man uncomfortably close to her, pushing the barrel of a handgun into the indent in her waist just below her ribs.

"Give me your wallet," he hissed. People started staring and someone screamed.

"Oh no," she thought. "This is way too public, I can't do it! But someone could get hurt…"

"Little girl!" he barked, irritated she hadn't complied. "Your wallet! Now!"

She growled quietly, "You don't know me, or what I'm capable of. Put the gun away and leave. That is your only warning," she told him, thinking, "I have to."

The gun started trembling, repeatedly jabbing her. She looked the man in the eyes, he saw the odd pink color of hers intensify and glow, her long, white hair slowly fanned out around her, and the gun started to warp. The cylinder unlocked and the single bullet in it slid out and dropped to the ground. The barrel of the metal twisted and melted until he was holding the handle of what looked like a large piece of gunmetal taffy.

She leaned in by his face. "LEAVE," she hissed. He was shaking so bad it was all he could do to turn around, slipping and tripping over himself to get away. The other people were still staring, even the trains had stopped. The girl stood for a few seconds, mulling over her options.

"FREAK!" a shout came from the crowd. Soon there would be a riot, just like in Hiroshima. She took off, running towards the stairs. The crowd wouldn't budge, which meant she would be trapped. With her powers she launched herself into a massive gazelle leap over them. There were gasps as their faces turned up to watch her. She landed halfway up the stairs and kept running.

A man with long red hair and piercing green eyes flicked a tracer on her. They found the notorious Mine Kyoko.
