Things were different now, in a way the world had never seen before. War and strife gone, obliterated. Around the world strangers held out their hands to help others, neighbors cared for neighbors. No one was made to sleep out in the cold, in the wet and slime. The sick were tended, the wounded were healed, the hungry were fed. Those who would have broken under loneliness and spite were, instead, held up to the sun with smiles and understanding. Respect freely given from parent to child, from brother to brother.
No longer was the world blinded by petty prejudice. Man, Female, Black, White,Jew, Hispanic, and on and on no longer mattered. Humanity was at peace with itself and the world. Their cities now interwoven with trees and fields. The acrid pollutants that had once stained the air and tore at the sky was a distant nightmare replaced, now, with the freshness of a spring breeze. Animals roamed free, wild yet tamed. Every living thing on Earth in perfect harmony.
With the peace came an age of wonder and magic that inspired hope in all planets around the universe. No longer shackled by their anger the humans found ways to heal any injury, cure any pain. They learned how to use the Earth without wasting it, without hurting it. Religions, though practiced, were no longer cause for war. Each religion, no matter what it was, was respected and appreciated so long as it did not demand a sacrifice. Magic wove itself around the world bringing joys and comfort.
Not to say they had become weak. The humans had, quite suddenly, become a dangerous force in the universe. They did not seek to claim or destroy or conquer. They did not reach out to steal or lie or kill. They acted only to benefit others and were horrified by lies and deceit. In defense of their own world they were relentless. Never killing more than necessary, always honoring the dead, but working as a single unit to abolish any threat. Even then they offered a hand of friendship should their attackers wish it.
Unyielding, unstoppable, yet still unwillingly to believe that anyone was without hope. The Earth, once war torn and chaotic, had become an beacon of peace and hope the universe had never known could exist.
And when children asked, in hush whispers at night, why their world was as it was their parents would smile wistfully, eyes turning to open windows in hopes of glimpsing a flash of red and blue in the night sky.
"Because Superman believes in us son and because we believe in him."
Just a short drabble I was inspired to write. Hope you enjoyed it.
