Summary: Sometimes we get what we want, but not the way we expected.
Princess Irulan placed her hand on her father's shoulder. She had been bred and trained for this day by the Bene Gesserit. Their mission was more important than her father or his empire. She would be the mother of the new emperors. Together she and Paul would give new blood to humanity. She saw herself as the bride of the Kwisatz Haderach and the mother of his children. Her duty to mankind would be fulfilled by guiding the new generation into a brave new world.
Paul thought to humble the proud princess. Irulan would be his wife in name only. Her dowry the emperor's throne and all of his CHOAM company shares. Chani would be the mother of his children and the woman who shared his bed. Irulan would be condemned to writing history not making it.
Just like the sands of Arrakis, time sweeps away all our plans. Paul did indeed shun Irulan's bed for Chani's. His behavior turned Irulan into a conspirator dedicated to preventing Chani from becoming pregnant. As a result of the conspiracy, Chani died in childbirth was blinded and stumbled into the desert.
The catch was that when she thought Paul was dead, Irulan realized that she actually loved epiphany led her to raise Paul and Chani's children as her own. .
They had all made plans that day on the plains of Arrakis Irulan never would have foreseen that her dreams would be fulfilled in this manner. Although she never shared his bed, she would devote the remainder of her life to his children out of love for him.
Her historical tracts had more influence over the history of mankind than anything the Kwisatz Haderach did. After all memory of Paul faded from the world, only her words remained.
