The world fell apart. Didn't you notice?

Things were bad. Not just like having a headache, feeling blah, uneasy or not really wanting to do a damn thing, bad. Matt felt like all the bumps, bruises and gashes from the last few weeks had just piled on top; never healing. His side ached, his stitches pulled and even his teeth felt like they were one punch away from being rattled out of his jaw. But, he walked into the office, trying to avoid looking like he was a whisper-breath away from collapsing.

'You look like shit, Matt." Karen said softly. All it took was one whispery, trebly sound of his voice for Matt to slink into the chair in the corner, cane and glasses dropped unceremoniously on the floor. "What have I done?" Matt said breathlessly. In less than a second Karen was at his side with her arms around Matt's shoulders.

Matt rarely took off his glasses in front of strangers and associates. This was as much a part of his day-time mask as his nightly mask was. He had always told Foggy it was so that people wouldn't feel uncomfortable, but Matt used those glasses as a way of shielding himself from the stares and prying eyes.

Karen was no exception to this. She was new and he still needed to be careful. Matt still always needed to make sure that he played the part of the blind man. When those red glasses were on, they served as a reminder that he needed to 'play the part'. Anyway back to the story at hand. Matt curled up on the floor wrapped in the embrace of a woman, while holding onto a secret he couldn't tell. She probably thought he was nuts.

"Matt, what have you done?" she asked. "I can't keep you safe. I don't know how to fix this. Everything we do, leads to more," he said deflatedly, shoulders rounded a slumped. "Every move, every lead we find, every stone we overturn, Fisk is there first. If he finds out we are investigating, I can't protect you Karen. Think of all of the innocent people; people who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They died at Fisk's hands for nothing! What if he finds out that we've been digging? The world has fallen apart, everything is changing. The good are losing and there is nothing that we can do about it," Matt said solemnly.

Karen then got down in front of Matt, gave him a blow job. Miraculously his sight being restored, not having been blinded by chemicals but by too much masturbating as a child, Matt got up and restored peace to the world.
