Never Let Me Go
...
"TAK!"
From rising fear, worry and relief, their bodies collided into one.
Zim gripped Tak tightly, his arms wrapped protectively tight around her body. Breathing heavily, he shakily brought up one hand to gently stroke the back of her head, feeling her warm tears soak through his shirt.
He nearly lost her. Again, one might add. Once before they had had such a long, horrible argument that it nearly met with a nasty fall-out between them. It took much begging from Zim on his knees to get Tak to forgive him once he had realized just how much he needed her in his life.
However, this was completely different. This situation had been completely out of Zim's control (there was no way he could have prevented it) and it nearly cost Tak her life. He hadn't even known that she was in danger, and once he found out, he raced to the chaotic scene, his fear for her life pushing him forward.
Tak was covered in deep gashes, scratches, bruises and burns when she appeared out of the rubble. And that was when they both caught sight of each other, simultaneously rushing forward.
The corner of his eyes began to sting with tears. He suddenly hated himself for letting his emotions gain control of him... but he couldn't help it. He almost lost the only one he had ever truly loved. The tears were also partly of relief. She was still here with him. Sure she was wounded, but she was alive.
Still... it hurt him to see her so wounded and... weak. Reduced to a bleeding, burned, crying and shaking mess. The only time he ever saw her so vulnerable was when she slept peacefully beside him at night. Only then it was an innocent vulnerability. Now it was a vulnerability brought on by near tragedy and danger.
They stood there for a long time the humans around either rushed into the scene of the accident or away. Back and forth the humans came, leaving the two disguised irkens to stand together, connected and combined into one being, in silence.
"I love you," came a small, quiet murmur from the injured female pressed up against him.
Zim's hold on her tightened. "I love you too." Saying those words felt more worth it than it did the first time he ever spoke them. Because he almost would have never been able to be given the chance to say those words ever again had the outcome of the accident been different.
Eventually she calmed down enough to where the shaking stopped completely. Now Tak was simply leaning against Zim's chest, physically and mentally exhausted by what had happened. Without another word, Zim lifted her up in his arms bridal-style and carried her off into the night, away from the rubble, raging fires and outpour of humans. And Tak seemed to melt into her mate's protective arms, letting herself willingly succumb to the welcoming darkness sleep had to offer.
A/N: Sorry for the lack of ZaTR from me DX I've just had such horrible writer's block for a long while. But for two reasons I wrote this little comfort, fluff (and painfully cliche) one-shot: one, because of a new ZATR writer, Apple-Berry-Sluppie12 (her stories are so amazing; YOU MUST READ THEM. I'm like, in love with her ZATR work). And the second reason I'm pushing my brain to come up with ideas is because of the general lack of ZATR. There's a lack of ZATR stories, art AND videos! X(
So I will help this pairing because they're my all-time favorite OTP! ZATR NEEDS MORE LOVE!
Anyway, don't ask what happened with Zim and Tak. This can be interpreted as AU from my other IZ stories, and the "accident" mentioned several times in this one-shot can be up to you what happened exactly, though it was obviously an explosion. XD
Again, title inspired by yet ANOTHER Florence & The Machine song, "Never Let Me Go".
Yeah. Please review! Sorry for the crappiness though.
