The Hunt

It was a cool night, the leaves shimmered in the moonlight, the blood seeped deep in the snow. I had never felt anything like it in my life.

I dropped the dead penguin to the ground, the blood I had just drained from it dripping from my neck to the snow covered ground below.

I looked up to see my loving husband, Edward, smiling at me.

I smiled back and within seconds I was in his arms.

He smiled down at me, his golden topaz eyes melting into mine.

"Is it anything like you imagined?" He asked me.

"No." I answered truthfully.

We stood there embracing each other for what seemed like a lifetime before Edward broke the comfortable silence.

"Let's get back before Carlisle and Esme start thinking we've left home."

Before I could speak he was gone.

I flew after him, my hair flowing behind me.

Within Five minutes we had travelled from the outskirts of Alaska to our home in the middle of Alaska.

As soon as we stepped into the empty hall and the door clicked closed three Vampires appeared, their soft voices carrying.

"Edward, Bella. Where have you been?"

"Yeah, Edward you go and change Bella and then you both just disappear!" Alice said jokingly.

"Bella had a bit of an encounter with a penguin." Edward laughed continuing on to tell of my adventure.

By the time he had finished they where all laughing.

When Rosalie entered the room she could only stare.

"What on earth happened here?" She asked, making the other vampires laugh harder.

Alice walked over to her with a smile and started re-describing my penguin encounter. By the time she was finished Rosalie was laughing just as hard as the others.

Just then Carlisle and Esme walked in and begun to take in the sight of four fully grown vampires on the floor with laughter.

And of course, Edward standing by my side with a huge mischievous grin his face.

When someone finally calmed down enough to yet again retell the story of my hunt, they chuckle quietly.

I knew that I should be dreading tomorrow; Alice had said earlier that it was going to be sunny. Me being a Neophyte; had never had to witness myself sparkling as sunbeams shattered on my skin.

I knew that Jasper was using his subtle gift of controlling the emotions of others to calm me, but I still felt edgy.

I felt a hand on my arm and looked up into Edward's concerned face. I smiled then and knew that with him there beside me, everything would be all right.
