Pain
Sequel to 'New Beginnings' and a second prequel to 'Memories'.

Remy knew they were coming before the first blow hit the back of his head. He had no energy; just walking to get more coffee in the cold breeze had taken all his energy. Damn pneumonia. He went down by the second hit and was just about out of it by the third. He knew he had to stay awake. He could send a mental cry to Lamb and they could come and find him. Lamb! Please, find me! He screamed in his mind. He mentally screamed it over and over again. The blows increased and the pain doubled and tripled until he knew he would lose consciousness very soon. We're coming, Remy. Just hang on. That one mental telegram was enough to make him fight the forthcoming darkness. The beatings stopped and he could hear his assailants running from the scene, maybe they thought he was dead? Maybe they weren't aiming to kill him. His eyes were heavy and every breath hurt. It was getting harder and harder to stay awake.
"Remy!" Parker shouted, running down the alley towards the demonic-eyed mutant. Remy concentrated on fighting the darkness. "Shit. We have to get him medical treatment NOW!" Parker shouted.
"Damage?" Gus asked.
"All the obvious, plus internal bleeding and head trauma. He won't make it if we don't act now." The pain built to a point where Remy thought his head was going to explode.

Gus sat beside Remy's bed and watched Parker check all his vitals again. The healing mutant, a young doctor, was doing all he could, but a recent accident of his own had left him with minimal power and the healing was too hard, taking too much out of him to do enough.
"We should go get Logan. Remy would want him here! He would want to be here!"
"We tried calling, Lamb, his phone is disconnected. There is no other way to get ahold of him."
"Go to him!"
"And leave Remy? No. What if he goes into arrest again? The three of you need me." Just as Gus finished his sentence the machine went erratic before a long single beep filled the room signalling the fourth arrest in a day and a half. Parker rushed to restart Remy's heart, while Gus did CPR. Quickly pulling out the defibrillator. Once it was charged Parker told everyone to clear and pressed the paddles to Remy's bare chest.

It took three tries but Remy's heart restarted.

Three days. Remy hadn't woken up, but his mind had functioned enough over the last three days that they knew he was in pain, wanted to be let go and wanted them to take his body back to wherever Logan was. After a long, emotionally draining discussion Gus, Parker and lamb decided to oblige Remy's request and after a painful good-bye to their much-lover friend, Parker turned off the life support.
"I'm going to see Logan. Make the arrangements." Gus said. Lamb, who was wrapped around Parker sobbed louder and Parker just nodded.

Twice Gus had had to pull over due to blindness by his tears. It took hours but he finally reached Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. It was three in the morning and he knew more than just Logan would be awoken by him banging on the door. He didn't care, he just had to speak to Logan.
