"Iruka," Kakashi said absently one day, tracing patterns on the couch beneath him. "I want a kid."
Iruka raised an eyebrow at his boyfriend's abrupt question. "What in the world are you talking about?"
"I want a kid."
Iruka sat up, Kakashi sitting up with him to sit in his lap more comfortably. "And what brought this on?"
Kakashi shrugged, but Iruka could see something in his eye. The brunette narrowed his own eyes as he stared at the man in his lap. "Kakashi, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, it's just…" Kakashi sighed and gazed at the wall behind Iruka, shaking his head. "I realized that shinobi don't live that long, and I want to live my life to the fullest. Besides, Asuma and Kurenai are having a kid…before I know it everyone's going to be married, even Gai, and having kids, and…I don't want to be the person who can't relate to his friends because he doesn't do the same things they do."
"So you want to have a kid…because you don't want to be alone."
"No!"
"Kakashi, we can't have a kid.'
"Why not?"
"First of all, we are shinobi. We could die on almost any mission we take. Second, most people would not approve of two gay men raising a kid. You know how frustrating it was the first couple months we were dating."
"I want a kid, Iruka."
"Kakashi…"
"You know I am not taking no for an answer."
"Kakashi…"
"Iruka! I want a kid! And if you won't let me, you're sleeping on the couch until you agree with me."
"You wouldn't," Iruka said. He had just gotten off the couch for the last time!
…Stupid Icha Icha and its tempting words of beautiful romance.
"You know I would."
"Kakashi, you know how much work raising a kid would be," Iruka said. "We would have to be more careful on missions, and make sure that they were safe, and they had everything they needed…"
He trailed off, knowing that it was useless to try and convince his boyfriend otherwise. It was completely pointless to try and deny Kakashi anything…especially when he decided to beg.
"Please, Iruka?" Kakashi pleaded. "I really want this."
Iruka sighed, tilting his head back against the couch. "We'll talk about this later."
Kakashi pouted and tucked his head into Iruka's neck. "Fine. But this is not over."

It was a week later before Kakashi brought the subject up again. They were sitting at the kitchen table, eating a quick lunch before Iruka had to go back to the Academy for a meeting and Kakashi had to meet his team. Kakashi was looking out the window absently, deep in thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Iruka asked.
"Can we please have a kid?" Kakashi asked. Iruka sighed.
"Why do you want one so badly?"
Kakashi shrugged. "It might have something to do with my childhood. I don't know! I just want one!"
Iruka tilted his head back, letting out a breath and dropping his fork. "Fine. We can have a kid."
"Yes!" Kakashi stood up and sat back down in Iruka's lap, grinning. "Thank you, Iruka!"
"Yeah, yeah." Iruka shook his head with a smile. "You knew you were going to break me down."
"Yeah, I did."
Iruka laughed. "I love you."
"I love you too."
About a month later Kakashi and Iruka adopted a little girl named Midori. Two years old, with brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Naruto had already decided that he was her godfather, declaring that he was going to spoil her rotten. Iruka honestly felt bad for whomever the blonde ended up with…or at least any kids he had.
