Hidden Talent

Chapter 1

Bobby's Secret

He sat quietly in his chair, his long fingers gliding softly over the finished wood, his mind taking him back to the memory of the first day he held it's light body. Smelled the wonderful aroma of the aged wood. He still wasn't sure what he was thinking three years ago that lead him to this place and why at his age he had even thought to give this a try.

He still marveled at something he thought would be impossible. The money hadn't been a worry; he could afford it, even one more expensive than he got. It was the thoughts about how his big hands could ever use something so delicate. His teacher had assured him bigger men then him had played, but it still felt like he was holding a toy in his hands.

He lifted the violin to his chin, adjusting the shoulder rest back to accommodate for his necks length. Every time he picked it up the thrill was still there, the anticipation of what was to come. Raising the bow he slowly played out the notes to Irish Washerwomen, once then again faster and faster. The smile on his face grew as the pure joy of the music swept over him, releasing him from the hardships of his day.

Yes, he was glad he started this, the moments of peace he found every evening and into the morning somehow made everything okay. His muscles relaxed, thoughts of drinking himself into oblivion had lessened. He generally found he was able to sleep for at least a few hours after playing before insomnia would find him again. He was very glad he listened to Alex and tried something new.
