New Beginnings
Set twenty years before 'Memories'.
Pairings: Logan/Remy
Disclaimer: I do not own either Logan or Remy. Gus however is my own character and if there is a Marvel character by the name of Gus it is purely coincidental
Logan was confused. Remy had been extremely distant the last couple days. They usually got together and played poker, a game that Gambit usually won, and drank a whole heap before heading into one of their rooms and having a very different kind of fun. The last week Logan had barely seen the Cajun and it was starting to worry him. Had he said something to upset the ex-thief or was it something else entirely? He was brought out of his thoughts when Gus, a hydrokinetic mutant who didn't age, similarly to himself, tapped him on the shoulder.
"Logan, what's eatin' ya?"
"It's Remy, Gus. Barely seen the kid all week. Starting to get the feeling he's avoidin' me."
"Have ya talked to him?" the smaller mutant asked.
"I just said I haven' seen him. How am I meant to have talked ta him if I haven' seen him?" he could swear sometimes it was like he was talking to a brick wall or a drunk wench at a pub; Gus just never took anything in without you smacking him across the face with it.
"Oh righ' I gotcha. If I see him I'll tell him ya were looking for him."
"Thanks Gus." Gus nodded and headed off.

When Logan walked into his room that night, Remy was sitting on the far side of his bed head resting in the hands sitting on his knees, a trail of smoke from the cigarette dangling between his fingers.
"Remy?" Logan questioned quietly.
"Bonjour Logan."
"Did Gus find you?"
"Yeah. Said you'd been looking for me."
"Where've you been the last few days?"
"Jus' doin' t'ings."
"Like avoidin' me?" Remy turned around then and looked Logan in the eye.
"Non, not intentionally. I jus' needed some time to think."
"Wanna share?"
"I can' keep doin' what we do, Logan. Not dis 'non strings' stuff."
"What? But we have fun don't we? Did I do somethin'?"
"Non, it's not you."
"That's what everyone says when the other person fucked something up."
"Non, Logan. You have to understan' it is not you. It's me. I want more, Logan."
"From me?"
"Oui." Logan went silent and let that sink in. Remy begun to panic, mentally kicking himself for his stupidity. Of course Logan wouldn't want anything more than what they had.
"When?"
"Huh?"
"When did you decide that?" Logan asked.
"Um, after de last time."
"Is that all?"
"Oui."
"Okay."
"Okay?" Remy repeated. "Please, let's jus' forget what jus' happened. Your friendship means to much to lose." Remy said, hoping to salvage what he'd just destroyed.
"No." Remy looked shocked. Logan hurried to explain at the sheer horror in Remy's eyes. "I can't forget it Remy. To forget would just cause us both pain. I want more too."
"Really?" Remy asked in disbelief.
"Yeah. Now put that thing out and get over here." Remy quickly put his cigarette out and walked right into Logan's embrace. Logan leant forward and kissed Remy's soft lips, pulling him as close as he could. Logan's beast cheered at finally having the card-wielding mutant being their's.

The next morning when Logan woke, everything was right. The young man lying across his chest, his long arm thrown over Logan's stomach was his and he was Remy's.
