Reid stood in the kitchen hands wrapped around a mug of hot coffee. Derek hadn't shown up that morning and it was beginning to worry him. He'd seen him the night before and he'd been fine. He was almost finished work, assuming no serious cases came up in the next 7 minutes 14 seconds so he'd stop by Derek's house then.

Reid stood outside Derek's front door. He was suddenly nervous. The two of them had been seeing each other for a few short months but nothing overly serious had happened as of yet. He knocked and waited. When there was no answer he knocked again; still no answer. Reid was getting increasingly worried. He reached for the knob and turned it. It was locked. Both a good thing and a bad thing. He pulled out his cellphone and dialled Derek's number. He didn't answer. Reid knocked again, louder this time. Finally he heard shuffling noises behind the door and the lock slid back. The door didn't open though and the shuffling was becoming distant again. Reid opened the door and entered Derek's apartment. The place was a mess. Reid headed straight for the bedroom, hoping that's where Derek had gone. He found said man curled up under the comforter on his bed.
"Derek?" he questioned, softly. Derek didn't answer. He walked right up to the side of the bed. He could see the top of Derek's head poking out the top of the blanket and the rest of him was hidden from view. He gently peeled the cover back to reveal Derek's face. He gasped at the bruising he saw there.
"Derek, what happened?" he asked, running a hand over his face.
"I went out for a jog, after you left. I went a different track to my usual one. I was jumped. It's nothing too bad."
"Derek, it was bad enough to keep you from work."
"I just had a really bad headache. I planned to call you later."
"Can I get you anything? Water? Aspirin?"
"No, I'm okay. Just tired."
"Is there anything I can do?"
"You can bring that cute little butt over here. Come and keep me company Spence." Spencer did as was asked. He put his satchel down on the floor then proceeded to remove his clothes. Once he was in his singlet and boxers he climbed into the bed next to Derek. He wrapped his arms around his lover and snuggled up close. Derek's arms wound around Spencer.
For the first time that day, Doctor Spencer Reid could stop worrying about Derek and Derek Morgan's pain ceased. The two lovers fell asleep wrapped in each others arms.
