Arwen sighed sadly. Her face was full of mourning and loneliness. Her blue eyes that normally sparkled with life and joy were empty. Now they were just dark pits of despair longing to see the face of the one she cared for so much. Glancing to her hands she toyed with the Ring of Barahir on her finger. The ring that he had given her on that special day on Midsummer's Eve long ago. Juts as she had promised, it never left her finger. And it never would.

But when the sun greeted the sky this morning, another special day had also arrived. And he wasn't here.

The Lady of Imladris walked slowly to her bed and opened the side table drawer, pulling out the thick book. She had looked over her gift to him countless times, making sure everything about it was perfect. She ran her finger over the spine of the soft leather bound book. Moving her hand across the cover she traced the elvish writing she had inscribed on the front. It read 'The Tale of Elfstone and his Evenstar'. And that's exactly what it was, their story.

Arwen had written pages and pages of their years together. From the day they meet in the woods, to Cerin Amroth, to time where everything just felt right. And even things as recent as him leaving with the Fellowship to save Middle Earth.

She had gone through her room to find in the back corner her old jewelry box filled with little notes he had written her just to remind her that he loved her, and the long letters that he wrote while away in the wild. Each and every one Arwen had secured within the pages of the book. And beside each one she wrote a sentence or two on how happy they had made her feel.

Flipping through the pages she remembered staying up late into the night, perfecting every passage that her pen would write, then quickly hiding it under her bed if he should come by for a midnight visit. She had been working on it for years, waiting until she had made it the best that it could possibly be. Arwen had even added blank pages in the back, so that they could continue to write chapters of the rest of their life.

This point in their lives was just another chapter to add. He was away right now and had been for many weeks. She longed to be held in his arms again, close to the warmth of his body as he whispered 'I love you' in her ear. To feel the scratchy touch of his beard as he kissed her lips. She missed him terribly, felling sad and almost guilty that she was not with him on this special day. She turned to the very first page in the volume where she had written a little foreword to him. Her breath let out slowly as she read to herself.

To my Precious Elfstone,
From his Evenstar~

I love you with all my heart
Everyday I live to see your face
To kiss your lips
And to feel your strong arms around me
You are my life
My heart
My everything
Amen mela lle my love

Arwen suddenly slammed the book shut and quickly put it back in its drawer and left the room, tears streaming down her face. It hurt too much. She could not bring herself to read the last two lines, which she knew read:

I am so happy to be with you on your special day
Happy Birthday Estel

AN: I got this idea when I was in Maine and I was reading the appendices.and I realized that Aragorn has a birthday when he is on the Fellowship quest thing. It's the day that they are reunited with Gandalf. (Oh ya Aragorns birthday is on march 1st.just so ya know ^.^)
