FOREVER

The weather was gloomy; certain sadness was felt in the atmosphere. The raindrops seemed like silver pearls falling from the sky, adding more drama to the scene.

He got out of the posh black vehicle draped in a long black coat, with the chauffer holding an umbrella over his head.

He held a not so big bag in his one hand and a rose in the other. He signalled the man in the white uniform to leave with the woman who sat inside. The woman watched him with teary eyes but took a deep breath and looked ahead with an expressionless face.

The car left on the wet road and he examined the place. The graveyard was silent and abandoned. Only the melody of rain was to be heard.

He made his way ahead, knowing exactly where he had to go; despite the fact that he hadn't visited this place or that particular burial since some time last year, the path seemed to welcome and invite him with open arms.

After reaching the burial that read the name of a certain woman who had her place reserved in his heart forever, he bent down.

..and blinked a few times to hold back the tears.

The rain got heavier but it didn't matter. At that moment, everything seemed lifeless.

He kept the rose in front of the name

'Maya Hart'

And caressed the name hoping he could still touch her.

And the feeling of her being around, her warmth, her scent and her presence started encompassing him.

He closed his eyes taking it all in, still nostalgic about a certain blonde haired girl who took his breath away at every smile she passed.

He set the bag aside that contained all her works, her sketchbooks and some songs she wrote.

Finally, he took out the cowboy hat that he brought for his city girl who couldn't respond to him now but he could still imagine her shuddering in annoyance and secretly blushing.

He smiled at the memory as he set it on top of the rose.

..

And for just a moment, he felt her beside him. Her tiny hand tracing his fingers, linking their hands together and her head resting on his shoulders. He experienced her touch for a second and then it was gone.

The tears that were being held back, unwound and then tears of grief faded and mixed with the rain..

"Those we love don't go away,

They walk beside us every day…

Unseen, unheard,

But always near,

Still loved,

Still missed

And very dear."
