Nothing Changed
Kurt was really worried about Blaine. Every since the… incident… he hadn't been the same. His smile had faded and Kurt missed his laughter. He rarely even left his room anymore.
"Blaine, do you want to go out today?" Kurt asked.
"No."
"Come on, Blaine! We can't just sit here and rot!"
"What are we supposed to do? I can't go to a movie, and I won't be able to see the clothes if we go shopping."
"We can go to lunch with everybody today. We were invited…"
Blaine sighs and says "I guess so…" with so much uncertainty it hurt.
Kurt describes all of Blaine's clothing to him so he can decide what to wear. He picks a purple collared shirt with a white sweater to go over it and black skinny jeans.
"No bow tie today?" Kurt asks.
The ghost of a smile crosses Blaine's lips. "Not today."
Blind or not Blaine is still a master at styling his hair and Kurt doesn't even have to help. They leave the house a little before twelve. Kurt was pretty sure this was the happiest he had seen Blaine in weeks. He had been so upset that the warblers betrayed him like they did. None of them had come to apologize. Blaine refused to call Wes or let Kurt go yell them. Mr. Anderson, who stopped on his way to L.A. to settle the legal matters, was dead set on not pressing charges.
Kurt had over heard him telling Blaine he had "gotten what he deserved."
Not to mention Blaine hadn't even called his brother to tell him about what had happened. Kurt was sure that Cooper would be more understanding. From Blaine's stories, Cooper accepted him for who he was. But Blaine didn't want to "be a burden" or "distract Cooper from his acting."
Blaine was still having trouble adjusting to being blind. He went to therapy two times a week to help him learn how to tell where he was and read brail and stuff like that. But Blaine had only been blind for six weeks, and he still wasn't great with it.
So when they arrived at bread stix about half an hour later, Kurt had to help Blaine out of the car.
"Do you want me to lead you to the door?" Kurt asked.
"No… I think I remember. It's that way, right?" Blaine asked, pointing towards the door.
"Yeah. Great job." Kurt said.
Blaine had to transfer from public school to a school for the blind, so he didn't get to see everybody a lot. They had come to visit him, but he missed them. So Kurt knew Blaine was really excited to see them. Blaine now had his cane out, and Kurt laced his hand through Blaine's. He ignored all the stares, and thanked the non-existent-lord that Blaine couldn't see them. He didn't want anything to ruin Blaine's mood.
They sat down at the table between Rachel and Santana. Santana was in the middle of telling a story about how she and Brittney had seen some celebrity at the Westerville Mall the other day. It was someone Blaine loved, so he immediately jumped in the conversation.
Blaine and Kurt shared one of the over-sized and over-priced salads and they laughed and joked with everybody and for a while it was like nothing had changed. Like Sebastian hadn't blinded Blaine and Blaine was still at McKinley and they were going to live happily ever after.
That moment was so good, and Kurt never wanted to let it go.
Rachel had to go somewhere and left early, and that left Finn without a ride. So Kurt offered him a ride home, and somehow it ended up that Blaine was going to stay the night at their house. Finn ended up driving and Kurt and Blaine snuggled together in the back and Kurt described all the passing scenery to Blaine.
Finn wasn't sure either of them notice when he decided to take the long way home.
