Another One-shot. Enjoy. -PartyLikeAMutant.
Summary: After Fang left, Max was left with nothing. It's twenty years later and Max is NOT happy to see Fang. Read the story to find out what happens, when a broken heart starts to heal.
I'd like to give a special thanks to Chaos Ride for Beta reading this story. :)
When Fang left Max twenty years ago, he took her heart with him. All these years she's suffered from heartache, with no one there for her like Fang had been.
That was until she stumbled upon a note. The note.
The note Fang had written the night he ripped her heart out.
After reading it over several times, her eyes kept falling upon one spot imparticular.
I'll meet you at the top of that cliff where we first met the hawks and learned to fly with them. You know the one. Twenty years from today, if I'm still alive, I'll be there waiting for you. You can bet on it.
Today was that day.
'I couldn't.' She thought, but it was too late, she was already half way out the door.
When she got there, he was already there. Standing at the edge of the cliff, dark and scruffy just like he had always been, only older. It hurt just looking at him.
"Fang," Max choked out.
He jumped and turned around. "Max!" He exclaimed embracing her in a long hug, one she couldn't bear to return. "I know I shouldn't have left, and I know I hurt you..." Fang's voice was shaky, and sounded sad. Max had been sad for the past twenty years, and he hadn't cared enough to come back, so why should she care? Why did she care?
"No," Max said, her chocolate eyes tear filled. "You don't get to do this to me again," She pushed him away. "The only reason I came here was to tell you to stay out of my life," At this point Max was completely hysterical. "I don't need you, and I don't want you." She's repeating the same lie she's told herself for twenty years. It still doesn't sound true.
At this point Fang had heard enough. "Okay Max, I'm...I'm sorry." Fang said his first tear rolling down his cheek. With that he ran and took off, his black wings pushing down as he surged upward, not once looking back.
And that was the last time I saw Fang. I'll admit it hurt saying goodbye on such a sour note, but sense that day I've felt better.
I can sleep at night, I can breathe easier, and I know it will take time, but I got my heart back and it's healing. Who knows, maybe I'll meet my Mr. Right soon. I guess anything can happen, when a broken heart starts to heal.
