A tall, slim figure walked alone in the dark. There was an elegant grace to her stride, so much so that she could have been mistaken for a ballerina. She wasn't a ballerina however; in fact she was about as far away from such things as anyone could be.
There was a mass of long silvery blonde hair hidden under the hood of the black cloak she was wearing, the silver and turquoise fastenings glittering in the moonlight.
Bright blue eyes scanned the park she had stopped in. She didn't feel completely safe being out in the open like this but this was something she had to do, for the sake of her own sanity…or at least what was left of it.
A cold wind seemed to surround her but she barely noticed it. She was waiting for someone, hoping they'd gotten the owl she'd sent.
There was a noise from somewhere behind her, Narcissa turned quickly. A beam of moonlight fell across her face making her look even more pale and ghostly than ever.
Ice blue eyes fell on a figure walking towards her, a figure she knew well. Narcissa's cold fingers tightened reflexively around her wand.
"Hello Rommie…"
"Cissy…why Cissy? After all these years…why contact me now?"
Andromeda Tonks stood before her sister.
Narcissa sighed.
"You know what's going to happen as well as I do Rommie…we're sisters…this might be the last chance we have to talk."
"We ran out of things to talk about years ago Cissy…why are you really here?"
"I'm here because I know you'll understand…you'd do anything to protect your daughter wouldn't you?"
"Of course I would…Cissy what's going on?"
Narcissa turned slightly from her sister.
"The Dark Lord is not happy with Lucius…and Draco…everyday he becomes more like his father."
The blonde looked back at her sister. Andromeda saw something in her eyes she hadn't seen there in years…fear.
"Cissy…?"
"I'm scared Rommie…Bella tells me I should be proud of Draco…proud that he's so willing to serve the Dark Lord…but it terrifies me Rommie…I don't want to lose my son. Bella doesn't understand…how could she? She doesn't know what it's like to look into the eyes of your child and see the world but you do Rommie…"
Slim shoulders shook as Narcissa tried to fight off tears.
"Cissy…I wish I could help you…you have no idea how much I wish I could…"
Andromeda laid a hand gently on her sister's shoulder.
"All they see when they look at Draco is something they can use…someone else to do the Dark Lord's bidding…do you know what I see? Lucius's eyes…my smile…the baby boy I used to cradle in my arms and sing to sleep…"
"Cissy…you knew this was going to happen the day you chose your path…"
"I didn't choose a path Rommie, I fell in love…the day I married Lucius I swore to stand beside him no matter what…I never thought I would doubt that…"
There was silence between the two for a few seconds.
"Cissy you know what I think about all this and you know where I stand…you have to do what you think is right."
"I don't think I know what that means anymore Rommie…"
"It means you do whatever it takes to keep Draco safe…and remember, we might be on opposite sides but I'm still your sister…"
"We were always on opposite sides Rommie…I should go, I've already been here too long."
Narcissa glanced nervously around her.
"Goodbye Cissy…stay safe…"
The sisters exchanged the briefest of smiles before Narcissa flitted off again, back in the direction she'd come.
