Diary of a Stable Cat

Dear Diary,

Today was amazing! Bethlehem is heaving with people because of this annoying census and the inn is full. My master is making lots of money with all the guests and I had to give up my room to a ginger cat and her kittens. I had to come out to the stable and sleep next to a brown horse who neighed a lot.

You won't believe this, but guess who turned up? A pregnant woman and her husband who looked dreary and exhausted; I felt sorry for them. When my master turned them away, I led them to the warm cosy stable where the woman bent down to stroke me. Her husband suggested that they could sleep on the straw and he placed his head-covering on top of the hay. It was not long after this that a baby boy was born and I crept forward to see the tiny baby. His mother said, "We shall call him Jesus as the angel said."

An hour later, I heard footsteps outside as a group of shepherds approached the stable. They said that they had seen a host of angels above the sky proclaiming that a Saviour was born in a stable in Bethlehem. They had left the sheep behind and hurried to welcome the baby. I tip-toed outside and gazed at the night sky. There was a shining star hovering above the stable; it was in the shape of a cross.
