Author's note:

Well this is something that came to my mind while I was reading the book To Catch A Pirate by Jade Parker. I'd been contemplating a pirate Castiel for a while, but the fight between Sterling and Northrup inspired the scene itself. I may or may not turn this into a series of one shots with the MLC guys as pirates. I hope you enjoy!

Elizabeth glanced over at the newest addition to the crew, Castiel. He wasn't actually particularly new, he'd been on the ship several months now, but there was still some enmity between him and the quartermaster Nathaniel. She was relatively sure that Castiel was purposely doing things to set Nathaniel off, but she said nothing just as her father, the captain, left the usually cool headed quartermaster figure it out; however, it was becoming increasingly clear that Nathaniel was anything but cool headed when the red-headed rigger had anything to do with it.

The way that they looked at each other seemed to speak of a previous meeting before joining her father's crew, and clearly not a pleasant one. Each watched the other with a murderous look in their eyes. She didn't know what was going one, but she cared deeply about both of them and didn't want the hostility to continue forever. Castiel was the one she loved, but Nathaniel was like a brother to her, though it was quite clear he saw her as more than that.

The days came and went with their hostility still going strong, but no outright fighting, much to everyone's relief. Castiel would take moments to flirt with Elizabeth when her father wasn't looking while Nathaniel would try to convince her to stay away from the rigger. It was clear that both of them had a thing for her, but she never thought it would amount to much.

She was very wrong, and that became about six months from the time Castiel had joined the crew. It was a brisk morning when Elizabeth woke up to the sound of metal clanging. She hurried to throw on some daytime clothing and went to see what all the commotion was about.

The first thing she noticed was that all the crew was gathered in the center of the deck watching something, though she couldn't imagine what. Pushing through to see, she found the golden-eyed quartermaster, with his sword drawn, facing the red-headed rigger whose sword was also drawn.

"What are you doing?!" she shouted above the sound of their dancing swords.

"Just settling some business," Nathaniel grunted in between strikes. Castiel even nodded agreeing with his opponent for once.

Elizabeth ran to her father who was also just watching. "Father, stop them!" she shouted in desperation. She didn't understand what was happening, but by god she did not want them to end up killing each other.

"Let them settle their differences how they see fit," was all her father had to say.

With an indignant huff she glanced back over to the fight. Castiel was steadily gaining ground forcing Nathaniel back into the mainmast. With a final twist Nathaniel's sword went skittering across the deck and Castiel's was at the blonde man's throat. They glared at each other, both breathing hard. Then, Castiel simply sheathed his sword with a smirk. "She's mine, you got that?" he said before turning to leave.

What the heck? Had that seriously only been about her? Boys were so stupid. They couldn't have bothered to ask her what she thought? And why had her father just let them? She supposed that was life as the only girl on a ship full of men. Once again, she didn't understand them at all…
