a/n: AF fanfiction, my first on this site

EDIT: went through and saw why i wasn't very good. not very good? horrible, more like. too short and... yeah. so i'll update more now.
this is pre-last guardian. ohmygod he actually killed artemis and he has two blue eyes why?!

Holly didn't know when or why or how she had fallen for the boy she thought she was purely friends with. It had just... happened. Like the stories her mother had read to her when she was ten, or fifteen. Her father had still been alive then, and he was another storyteller. But she was rambling. It was Artemis Fowl who was the more pressing issue.

And thus the long walk down memory lane began.

She had despised, loathed him for the first year or so. Well, she was perfectly immune to Stockholm Syndrome. Why would she have any reason to like the Mud Man who had overcome her, lied to her and made her suffer for, oh, weeks?

But she was a bit grateful to him for not searching her.

ANYWAY.

You wouldn't see Holly Short, one of the most stubborn elves under the earth and above it, even feeling a bit of sympathy for a kidnapper? And let's not forget that he was irritating. And smug.

It was only after the Arctic incident and the goblin rebellion that he started to mean something. First off, he had saved her hand and, indirectly, her dignity. It was almost impossible to get back your self-respect once you had been harmed on a mission by a mere human. And then when she was going to save him from Spiro's prison? That was the day she had discovered just how well they could anticipate each other's moves.

But he was a genius, so maybe she was reading too deeply into things.

Was it so wrong that she wished for him to overcome the mind wipe? He was her closest friend, no, ally. Weirdly enough, she felt like he was the only person she could trust. Apart from Root and Foaly and Butler and...

Well, at least she trusted him. And she was not one to trust easily.

Then came the shock of Root's death and Artemis' near death at the hands of the she-devil, Opal Koboi. She'd already lost her boss, she couldn't stand to lose her, um, acquaintance too. Then she had discovered he really had found a way to overcome the wipe and congratulations! She had him back!

After that catastrophe came Number One, Minerva Paradizo, etc. He had literally brought her back to life that time. And they switched eyes, didn't they?

Next, they went back in time, he lied to her, they met his younger megalomaniac selfand she kissed him! Granted it was out of shock that he was alive but she had felt so happy that it couldn't have been mere relief.

Most recently, he developed schizoprenia- the Atlantis Complex. D'Arvit, he was rubbing off on her.

And she had gone on a date with Trouble Kelp! Of all people, she chose that irritating, loyal friend who would never be more than that to her. Being a female sucked at times. He was badgering her even more now!

Now, Holly was corresponding with Artemis on a regular basis with the fairy communicator. Her spirits lifted whenever he spoke to her. That had to signify something.

Not even Lili, who Holly had struck a fast friendship with, could explain that. Maybe it was because the idea of a human with a fairy was wrong, somwhow.

And Trouble just wouldn't quit.

Shaking her head, she went back to work. If she did love or, more plausibly, have a crush on Artemis Fowl, it was best to delegate whatever thoughts about the matter she had to bedtime. Haven needed policing. And an alert officer was preferred to a sleepy, daydreaming one in any case.

a/n: two more chapters (one in artemis' point of view but in third person other (tentative) a conclusion-maybe happy ending) and yep. all of it. try to review.
