Their love story wasn't the one to be called spectacular or mind-blowing, but it was warm, pure, sweet and familiar. Every time they split up it was on mutual terms. Every time they reunited, it felt as if they had returned back home from a very long and tiring journey.

He had just been at the shy age of 14 when they first met on Berk. He liked her from the get-go and she, despite being two years older, found him endearing and sweet. Despite the initial attraction, they both remained oblivious to the feelings that would come to be.

When they reunited again for the first time in 3 years, they were both stunned by one another. Fishlegs was still much the same but bolder and more daring. Instead of timid, he was now an ambitious young man ready to embrace adulthood and all its wonderful perks. Heather had long ago passed this stage, and she did it so flawlessly despite the unfortunate circumstances that life put her through. She was a full grown women now and it showed in the way she carried herself.

On his 18th birthday, Fishlegs mustered up the courage to act upon his feelings. He picked up a pen and wrote down his concerns and emotions. He was initially hesitant to send the letter but it ended up being the best decision he made. The letter he received in response filled him with hope and nervous excitement.

Days passed by and the pile of letters he received grew bigger. He couldn't bring himself to throw any of them away so he kept them all hidden safely inside a chest in his hut. He also kept it a secret from the rest as these words were only meant for him to see.

When the other riders eventually figured out that he had been corresponding with Heather, they insisted she should pay them a visit.

Fishlegs was both fearful and happy over the sudden turn of events. It was one thing to confess his inner feelings in a letter and a whole another thing to speak these words when face to face with the woman he loved.

When Heather arrived at the Edge, she was estatic to see him, much to Fishlegs' surprise.

They both decided to be upfront about their feelings and start a relationship almost straight away.

Their relationship lasted for as long as Fishlegs lived on Dragon's Edge. Even after Heather moved to Berserker Island, they kept in touch over Terror Mail. It was when he moved back to Berk their relationship came to a halt. The distance was now far greater and Heather had become busy in her new role as Dagur's second-in-command as well as the new guardian of Vanaheim.

But every time they met again, they would fall into each other's arms again. Even in spite of his short-lived infatuation with Ruffnut and Heather's on-and-off fling with Eret, they would always end up right back where they started. Fishlegs knew he would always love Heather and she felt the same way. They were always going to be each other's safe haven when they had no one else to turn to.

Fishlegs smiled slightly at the grey haired woman that stood in front of him now. Despite being wrinkly and old, she still looked the same to him. She was still beautiful. His own hair had turned white and scarce, and over the years, he had lost a lot of weight, mostly due to illness. He almost looked unrecognizable but that didn't seem to matter to Heather as she flashed him a smile.

"So here we are again," she said wrapping her arms around him. "One last time." He immediately returned her embrace, closing his eyes.

It always felt good to be home.
