Hey everyone. I recently received the results for my schools annual PTA reflections contest. I was one of the lucky winners to be selected! My entry in the category of literature made it to regionals, but sadly, didn't go past that. I still felt good to be on the announcements though. I was also able to snag a spot in my school's year book! Hahaha! Anyway, I thought I would share it with you!
It's mildly based off The Legend of Zelda, (which I don't own! *disclaimer*) but not obviously so, because I could've gotten disqualified for copyright (then again, maybe that's why I didn't make it to state… you guys comment and tell me if it was too obvious).
The theme this year was "What is Beauty?" Here is my essay, enjoy! Just felt like sharing. ;)
OH, by the way! I KNOW! It is very random, and doesn't make much sense, but if it did, it would have taken forever to explain. Thus, exceeding the limit of words I could enter. Just a warning, DON'T FLAME ME BRO (sis? or taze… that fits too…). xD
"The Boy Garbed in Green"
I think beauty is the revelation of redemption. Here is how I see the story.
There are now ice cold drops, landing – plopping on my bare shoulders.I stand on the veranda of the kingdom's citadel and look up to the bleak, grey sky.
My ears hear the drums of war sound in the distance, my heart stops beating – it rises up to my throat, and I can feel the tears begin to brim. My head snaps back to the ground – the wide battlefield, devoid of anything living.
Then, more drums, more horns… they blare into earshot and I flinch. I wish to curl up into a ball and sit it out… but for some reason, I feel I should watch.
Then, just as expected, the denizens of this country burst out into battle, and the clashing of metal and anguished cries of the wounded reach my ears as a painfully loud siren. But all the bloodshed… at this, I shudder again.
Their lack of simple civility is just so churlish; I don't understand how this happened. As my kingdom crumbles into rubble and ruin before my eyes, the crystalline tears fall and plummet down my cheek and to the ground.
It falls to the concrete below and a boy on the battlefield looks up. He was so far away, he seemed as an ant, but I could see him. And he was watching. I was watching back.
His hair was a golden blonde, like a sea of wheat and rye. His eyes, a light yet deep blue; like the sky on a perfect day. The boy garbed in green notices my sullen face. I can see the ambition in those blue orbs of his… I simply don't know what he is plotting, but something tremendous is about to happen.
The Gods were with us, for he did the most unexpected thing of all. He dropped his sword. Others watched in shock and amazement. Without hesitation, everyone followed his actions.
Swordsman let their blades fall, the archers ceased the shooting. The horsemen slowed their steeds and then all was quiet…
I simply watched in awe as the miracle unfolded before me. All the soldiers turned towards the castle and bowed. They bowed to their Princess, their leader, their ruler… Me.
'What an audacious boy! A true hero! His prodigious deeds shall be venerated from decade to decade for many centuries to come' I think to myself with a smile gracing my face.
Our civil war never happened… there is now hope – a chance! I will never understand how exactly this happened, but I will be forever grateful to him.
We can rebuild our futures, and prosper for a while longer. And it was all thanks to our hero, our savior, our conqueror –
The boy garbed in green.
This is the revelation of redemption, the beginning of a new future, the instigation of prosperity. This is beauty.
