Written for a friend's birthday present. Beta'd by Antoinette. I don't own Horatio or Eric. Just borrowing them and will return them for tomorrow's new episode. Making no money off of this.
Heartless
A man without a heart is capable of many things and none of them are for the greater good of humankind. Horatio Caine knew this from all the crime scenes he had investigated in his long career, and yet here he stood with his gun poised to murder Antonio Riaz, the man who murdered his wife.
His beloved Marisol.
An image of her on their wedding day flashed through his tired and grief ravaged mind. She wouldn't have wanted him to become a cold blooded killer, so he adjusted his aim and fired two bullets into the ground next to Riaz's head.
"He's yours if you want him, Eric," he growled as he walked away pretending he didn't see his brother-in-law kicking Riaz in the head.
The crackling from the fire behind him and the sirens that signaled that the cavalry was on its way finally made it through to his conscious mind.
He took a deep breath to calm and then refocused himself. He slipped on his sunglasses and locked away the pain. He had a job to do and a city to protect.
