Memories
He never wanted this. Severus Snape stands in front of Lily Potter's—no Evan's—grave. It has been five years since that fateful night in Halloween.
"Why…why…" he whispers. Tears running freely down his cheeks.
"Hey, Sev…what do you think of my new dress," thirteen-year old Lily Evans said, twirling. It was a modest yellow sundress. 'Beautiful,' thought Snape. Lily looked at him waiting for a response. Snape blushes and said, "Uh…it looks…really good." Lily smiles. Her smile made him blush even more. 'She's even more radiant than the sun,' thought Snape.
"You were the most beautiful thing that I ever saw. You radiance knows no bound."
Lily stretched her arms out and lay on the grass with Snape watching her, burning the image into his mind. They were lazing around and decided to watch the sunset. Lily turned to him, "The OWL is coming up next month. Are you nervous?" Snape shook his head. "Not really." "Well, I am," said Lily. Snape asked, "Why are you nervous?" "Because, it means we are one step closer to graduating and I fear of what's going to happen." Snape knew what she means. They had heard stories about a new Dark Lord. Once they graduate; they would be leaving the safety of Hogwarts. "Everything is going to be alright," Snape reassured her. Lily smiled. In that moment the sun just set and bathed Lily with the dark-orange light which matched her flaming red-hair. It took Snape's breath away.
"I should have fought for you," Snape's voice cracking from the overwhelming emotions that rage within him.
Lily felt someone behind her and gasped. It was her former-best friend, Severus Snape. "What are you doing here," Lily said. They were in the bedroom of Lily and James' flat in London. "I heard about your engagement. Is it true?" Lily whispered, "Yes." "Why…you know what James is," cried Severus. Lily shook her head. "He isn't like that anymore. I love him." Those words shattered Snape's hearts beyond repair. 'He can't love you like I can,' thought Snape, fear stopping him from speaking his mind. He made a dash to leave when Lily told him to wait. "Do you remember our promise," Lily whispered. "Yes," Snape whispered. "I'm sorry for breaking our promise," Lily said, unable to meet Snape's eyes. Snape said nothing, turned and leave with tears streaming down his cheeks.
"It wasn't your fault Lily. I was the one who broke our promise. I was weak. Now, I will make a new promise. I will protect your son from his enemies. This, I promise you," Snape said full of conviction. He places a flower on her grave and disapparated.
A young Snape and Lily lay on the grass contemplating of what is to come. They received their Hogwarts letters. "What's wrong, Lily,"asked Snape, seeing his friend in discomfort. "I'm scared of being alone,"Lily said, sitting up and holding her knees to her face. Snape grabbed her shoulder and looked straight into her eyes. "You'll never be alone. I promise." "You promise," Lily said in a soft voice. "Best-friends forever," Snape said. Lily smiled and hugged him. 'I will never stop loving you,' thought Snape
