[ONE]
Everything is crashing into the walls she built around herself, around her heart. Jake's stabs penetrate too deep. He's so jealous, always suspicious. Ryder is a knight, until he stops defending her and starts attacking her and her friends. Unique is fragile, and, hell, so is Marley.
[TWO]
"How could you do this to me?"
Marley sinks down to her knees, her back against the wall. "I— I'm sorry, Jake."
"You're sorry? Sorry? You went behind my back and texted, called, IMed, and whatever the hell you two did, and the whole time you were just messing with Ryder? You never told me! Marley, I… We're done. I can't do this anymore."
Jake leaves the room, slamming the door behind him. Marley sobs.
[THREE]
"I can't believe you! I trusted you! You told me it wasn't you, and you lied to me!" Ryder kicks the wall in front of him, grabbing his sandy brown hair by the roots. "I can't believe you'd do this to me, Marley. I loved you!"
He kicks the door open and walks out.
[FOUR]
"Marley, I'm so sorry, I'll tell him. You don't have to lie to them for me. I'll do it. For you."
"Unique—"
"Don't. I shouldn't have done it in the first place. I was just… lonely. Whatever. I'll tell him."
"You can't. He's so… Ryder's angry."
Unique looks up at her friend with her big sad eyes. "I need to tell him."
[FIVE]
Unique prepares for a slap across the face. Marley's hand stops Ryder's mid-slap. "You can't hit a girl."
[SIX]
"I'm done with this."
"Come on. Let's get out of here."
[SEVEN]
So she ignores the notes that plead forgiveness and ignores the fact that they sit on two different ends of the lunch table and she ignores the fact the both of them try to make eye contact because don't they know that eyes are pictures of the soul? They are not getting in there.
It's not going to happen. She can rebuild her walls and she can try and forget what they all said but she can't and she won't.
She's stronger than that, dammit.
