Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
This is an idea that started out as a multicoated fic, but I couldn't figure out how to end it, so I made the first chapter into a one shot. Its currently unedited, so I apologise for that. I will probably edit it and repost it in a few weeks.
PLEASE, PLEASE REVIEW!
Title: Thanks for the Memories
"No," whispered Hyuuga Hinata, "This cannot be happening." The fifth Hokage continued speaking, oblivious to the sorrowful words the Hyuuga heiress was muttering under her breath. It took all of Hinata's self control to keep herself from sobbing uncontrollably in the Hokage's office and begging the woman to reconsider. No, the heiress's fate was sealed because of her father and village headwoman.
When she finished speaking, the Hokage finally paused and looked the Hyuuga in thee eye, asking, "Do you have any questions?"
Hinata was tempted to swear at her superior, but instead merely shook her head and asked, "When am I to leave?"
"You have the remainder of today and tomorrow to pack and prepare before your escort arrives," the Hokage replied distractedly, her mind already on her next task. Knowing she was dismissed, Hinata bowed quickly before leaving the messy office.
Walking the streets of Konoha, Hinata tried not to let the tears clouding her vision fall from her eyes. Tenten saw her walking and bounded over to the shy kunoichi. When she realized that the violet haired girl was on the verge of tears, Tenten put her arm around the younger girl while inquiring, "What's wrong Hinata-chan?"
With that, Hinata burst into tears and she sobbed the entire way to the older girl's small apartment. The kunoichi who was well known for her skill with weapons sat Hinata down on the worn couch and gently wiped the tears from the crying girl's eyes, once again asking, "What wrong Hinata-chan?"
As soon as Hinata got her tears under control, she looked at Tenten and slowly began to tell her companion what had happened in the Hokage's office. Saddly, Hinata watched the girl sitting next to her as she told that as the leader of the Hyuuga clan, Hinata's father, had arranged a marriage between Hinata and the leader of the village hidden in the sand. Sniffling, Hinata continued, saying "The marriage is to improve relations between the two villages, and Hinabe will be the new Heiress of the Hyuuga clan. Tenten, I'll never be able to give this man the love he deserves." Her voice wavered and broke, and tears flowed freely from her eyes once again.
Tenten looked and Hinata and felt the tears prickling at her own eyes. "Did you say anything?" she asked cautiously.
"No, nothing," Hinata sobbed. "Don't worry. Tenten, I don't want to leave any of my friends here, especially you. However, at least you will have the opportunity to find love, whereas I will not."
"I already found my love, and now that's being taken away from me." Tenten whispered into Hinata's ear as her eyes overflowed and tears spilled down her cheeks. She reached up and caressed Hinata's cheek, and whispered a barely audible "I love you."
"I love you too," Hinata said, sounding more confident than most of her village had ever heard. "I'm sorry, but this is the last time I will see you before leaving. I can't bear saying goodbye to you again; it hurts too much." Hinata leaned over and gently kissed Tenten's cheek.
Hinata stood and pulled the older girl up from the couch, pressing their bodies firmly together as their lips met in a passionate kiss, but after only a few seconds Hinata pulled away. "I'm sorry," Hinata whispered, "I wish I could stay here with you. I will always remember you. Good-bye." With those final words, Hinata pulled away from her lover and fled the apartment.
"I won't ever forget you," Tenten said softly, looking at the air where her lover had stood moments before.
