When you first awakened

You were perfect in their eyes.

A new face in the crowd of the same

Quicker, smarter, stronger than all the rest,

You were

Independent.

They named you.

Your name meant "strong".

And that's what you were.

You proved to the white-coated scientists

That yes, you were

Strong.

And smart.

And a sentient being.

Your father revelled in your strength,

And your eagerness to aid them.

You were good at finding bugs.

You were quick to see the fatal flaw.

And you removed them,

Saving a lot of lives and time.

Too bad it was all through destruction.

They began to hate you

Because you were too superior-

Too advanced.

You were of the future,

Much better than what they had.

But they detested you-

You were too strong.

And they don't like anything that's better than they were.

Scientists.

So they imprisoned you.

A holding shield-

Practically a jail cell of anyone bothered to check.

And limiters.

Those terrible things to render you defenceless.

You tried-

To the very end to make the best of it.

Your father was unable to help you.

So you languished in a cell-

And those you used to fight against-

What are they called?

Security navis?

Those incompetent fools that did little but battle viruses and chat?

They laughed.

And jeered

And sneered at you.

"The powerful Forte-trapped inside a holding cell."

"It's a sad, sad sight."

You took the shame gracefully.

Better than a lot of others I know.

And then…

Alpha acted up.

Look at the "scientists" now.

They holed you up in there-

When you could have resolved those dangerous multitudes of bugs.

See?

They created a monster through their negligence.

And to think- you could have save them the trouble.

You were independent-

Acting on your own

Your better judgement

Could have save saved them.

If only they had let you.

Your prison fell away.

You saw the river of broken data

And diagnosed the problem-

Correctly.

Then-

The "security navis" returned

To finish the murder, no doubt.

All because Alpha made your cell's CPU melt down.

You lost your innocence that day.

Your father-Cossack- was incarcerated.

He couldn't save you.

From dark to light to dark again-

Your life is as an avenger.

Don the brown traveller's cloak

Don the purple war paint

To fulfill the one purpose

To grow ever stronger

And smite humanity,

For what it did to you

Because of what the 'scientists' did to you-

You don't belong anywhere.

You aren't accepted-

And don't want to be.

A shadow.

Looking for a purpose.

Trying to find the light

So he can be whole again.

The shadow

With a scar across his heart

A lasting legacy of betrayal

And a reminder not to trust.

For the first cut was the deepest

And the one best not repeated.
