After a year, he broke it off; he told her it was for the best.
He felt empty as he watched her walk into the Great Hall the next morning, eyes puffy and downcast.
He regretted it as they graduated and began fresh lives.
He regretted it as he began dating a woman. An actress or model, he didn't know.
He regretted proposing to her; he didn't even know her favorite color.
H regretted it as he stood at the altar and saw Hermione walk in, alone, smiling through hollow, dull eyes.
His heart tugged as he apologized to his bride and ran to Hermione, whispering desperately in her ear.
He kissed her and held her tight, closing his eyes and reveling in the comfort he felt.
He apologized again to his bride but didn't regret it.
He knew second chances don't come often.
