Chance Meeting
"Come on Steve! There had to of been at least one girl that caught your eye back then!"
It was Thursday, the Avengers, par usual, were in downtown Manhattan on their way to the Shawarma joint they had gone to after the invasion. The conversation had started with Thor telling them about Asgard and had somehow gone into Steve telling them about New York in the 40s. Somewhere in there they brought up girls.
Steve sighed. "I swear, no girl grabbed my interest," he replied, "not that they liked me anyway not when I was still small."
"Must have been a babe magnet afterwards," Clint muttered jealously and Natasha jabbed him in the ribs.
Bruce frowned. "What about Peggy Carter?" the others looked at him, "In my research on you, it said you two were close."
Tony smirked. "Got you," he teased.
Steve shook his head. "Nope, we had a sibling relationship; she had liked me at first but realized it was more a need to protect, brotherly," he informed.
Tony groaned. "Throw me a bone here! There had to be someone Capsicle!"
Steve rolled his eyes.
"Stay where I can see you!"
Steve froze and turned. That voice, it couldn't be, not after so long.
"Kevan stop running!"
Back facing Steve was a man with a broad build; he had tan skin and wild black eyes. The man was wearing a black/brown leather jacket with a light blue shirt under it and loose blue jeans as well as combat boots. The man was surrounded by teens and kids but Steve was sure.
"James?!"
Logan wasn't sure how Ororo had done it but somehow she had weaseled him into chaperoning seven of the kids in their trip to Manhattan. Luckily, today was the last day and then he'd leave for Canada again, trying to learn more of his past.
"James?!"
Logan jerked; that name. Where has he heard it? Was it… his name?
Logan turned slowly and saw a large man with blonde hair and blue eyes but somehow, that wasn't right. Then Logan saw it.
"I'm Steve Rogers."
"Hmp. James Howlett."
Such a small and scrawny boy, but with such a big heart. One who wouldn't give up. The one he fell for.
"Steven," Logan, James breathed.
Steve smiled and ran to him. They hugged tightly. Steve's head resting on Logan's; where it should be.
"That explains the girls," james faintly heard but he ignoed it.
"I thought I had lost you," Steve whispered.
"I knew we'd meet again," James said reassuringly.
They pulled apart and then, they kissed, for the first time in 68 years. Everything around them disappeared; it was Steve and James, James and Steve; like it would always be, from now on.
This, has been a Chance Meeting.
The End
