I'd like to say thanks for taking the time to read this. In this fic Artemis is in denial about his feelings for Juliet. Enjoy! = )

In Denial

"Mother, no. I do not wish to go to the ball that you and Father are

hosting," I said trying to reason out to mother.

"But Artemis this means a lot to your father, it's the first time he's

hosting a gathering after his disappearance. Artemis, if you would be

present this is his chance to be the father he wants to be. He's proud of you.

He wants everyone to see his son," Mother said, trying to persuade me.

I thought about it. Well it was a small price to pay for father's

reappearance. I sighed. "Very well Mother", I agreed obligingly. "For

Father"

"That's my Arty", she said beaming at me.

I took leave of her and cast aside the ball. I had more important

matters to think about. I went to my study and once again began to search

for ideas for my latest scheme. A few minutes later I heard Mother's voice

interrupt me through the intercom. "Arty, please do come here, we have to

make arrangements for your preparations for the ball."

"Yes. Mother" I answered her. As I walked to her room, I wondered

what "preparations" she was talking about. Certainly not about clothing, I

have countless of suits to choose from. Hmm. Maybe she was referring to

etiquette? No problem on that either, of course I know all about that. Then

what "preparations" did I need for a social gathering? Then it hit me. I

froze. Dancing?! A sense of uneasiness came to me; did mother actually

suggest that I dance? I am a genius, I know a lot of things but most

certainly not how to dance.

As I found myself in front of Mother's door, I knocked and forced

myself to enter.

"There you are Arty! Now I presume that by agreeing to go the ball

you have thought of the fact that you have to dance."

I sighed, so it was true. "But Mother, that was not part of the

agreement."

"But Artemis, do you expect to just sit in a chair, while everyone is

dancing? Of course not" she said answering her own question. "And what will

you do if someone asks you to dance?

I was horrified by the notion of someone asking me to dance, who

would do such a thing? " But Mother all of our guests would be triple my

age."

"Nonsense, surely they shall be bringing their own children. Don't

worry, there will be someone to dance with"

"Very Well, Mother", I grumbled. I shall formulate a plan to get out if

this. But upon hearing my agreement Mother's face lit up and a small wave of

guilt came over me, quite unusual for me to feel. maybe Father's positive

attitude is getting to me, maybe I should make one of the few people I love

happy. I sighed as Mother went to the telephone to arrange an appointment

with some dance instructor. "What have I gotten myself into?"
