I don't own Rizzoli and Isles….
Best friends, sisters that's what we are'Don't hurt her' Maura had said as if her monologue would somehow be heard by Dominic Bianchi. She couldn't help the tears that had started to flow when Frost, Korsak and Frankie burst into the room where her best friend was bound to the bed of her captor.
Now as they sat on her couch in her living room, Jane drinking her favorite beer, she sipping wine both internally, were processing what had transpired that day. She looked at her friend whose gaze met hers.
"Well the worst part was the outfit…pink shoes…vomit." Jane attempted humour trying to make light of the moment.
Maura mustered a smile before she began. "You know you always do that Jane." Her voice laced with a hint of sadness.
Jane glared at her confused. "Do what, mock pink stuff?" she laughed.
Maura turned to directly face her friend, putting the glass of wine she had in her hand on the coffee table in front of them.
"You try to make jokes when you've been in a traumatic situation." She held the gaze as if trying to read her friends soul. "You don't have to pretend with me, you're my best friend, I won't think any less of you if you admit you were scared."
Maura knew Jane better than Jane knew herself, trauma was how their friendship began, trauma had almost ended their friendship
"Maur, I really don't want to talk about it okay." Jane's voice was firm but polite. She averted her gave, looking around the room at nothing in particular.
Ignoring her friends request Maura continued. She knew Jane was not one to talk about her feelings, especially after she had been hurt or injured, she always had this tough façade. But Maura had seen Jane break down before, she had seen her best friend at her weakest after the Hoyt incident and that was when their bond of friendship was in it's early stages.
"I was scared for you, of what he could have done to you and I know it would have destroyed you and I'm so thankful they got to you before it did but Jane he undressed you, and you were tied to a bed, you didn't even know if we could actually see you. I know you were scared; it's okay to talk about it. I am here for you, just like you've been there for me. "She said her tone laced with sincerity.
Jane shifted herself on the sofa, finishing off her beer and then placing the empty bottle on the coffee table next to Maura's empty wine glass.
"Maur, what part of I don't want to talk about it don't you understand?" Jane replied, her tone slightly amplified. She caught Maura's hurt expression and she continued in a softer tone.
"I appreciate what you're trying to do and I'm sorry for yelling at you…"
"It's ok, you're upset." Maura interrupted. "I shouldn't have pushed you to talk about it, I know you don't like to talk about it…it's just that I care you know?" She continued, on the verge of tears.
Jane drew closer to her friend, pulling her into a hug.
"I know you do, you've proven that time and time again, you're an amazing best friend, you're the sister I never had and I trust you and I will talk about it when I'm ready just not now ok." The sincerity in her words was overwhelming, drawing her friend to tears. She sniffled as they released each other.
"Okay, I'm sorry. You're the sister I always wanted…maybe not so stubborn..." she giggled after a playful punch on the arm from Jane.
"You totally ruined the moment Maur!" Jane reprimanded jokingly. "I love you, thanks for being there for me." Jane offered with a smile.
"Anytime and I love you too." She replied, smile meeting smile.
They may be total opposites but their differences complimented each other perfectly, helping them become a brilliant duo at work and achieve a friendship, a bond that many could only dream of.
The End.
