We must've spent hours ducking under cover, silently taking out fallen, one by one. It almost brought a tear to my eye, seeing all the dead bodies of men women and children. Some were still alive, begging for mercy. Those damn monsters brutally murdered everyone in sight. What was even sadder was the people still alive, looking right at us, begging for us to save them. We couldn't. Our mission was to meet at the rendezvous point. Fire team Alpha and Beta couldn't hold out forever. We had to put some people out of their misery ourselves.
Gunshot began booming through the air. "Shit, it's them!" Rookie whispered us. He was right, they were spotted. If we didn't take action, they'd quickly be overrun with fallen. "Listen." I told my fire team, "We need to distract the fallen that will be trying to support the ones fight Alpha and Beta. On my go, we will make as much noise as fucking possible. Use your bullets wisely."
"Yessir." Rookie responded.
"Yessir." Xûr told me.
"Prepare to die." I told them.
We all sprung up from our cover, opening fire on any fallen in sight. Guts began flying everywhere. Fallen head exploding, their bodies collapsing to the ground, fallen being launched back from bullets violently passing through their bodies. A dreg jumped on Rookie's back, stabbing him in his right lung. I used my sidearm to shoot the dreg's head off. "Rook!" I yelled as I ran over to him.
"Fucking leave me!" He said as he pushed me away. He hopped to his feet, charging the remaining fallen. Rookie was torn apart by bullets before he could even empty his magazine. "We have to go!" Xûr grabbed me and we began retreating towards the wall, the rendezvous point.
By the time we got there, Alpha and Beta had been surrounded, most of the guardians dead. I chucked a grenade into the crowd of fallen, blowing them sky high. Only a couple seconds later, bodies of fallen and guardians scattered the ground. Three guardians rose up, revealing that we had lost three more guardians.
"There's no more time!" One of the guardians said, "We have to run."
I looked behind me. Snipers, foot soldiers, and fallen drop ships took over the battle field of cars. There was no more hope, we were all that remained of humanity in the cosmodrome. Now, only five of the nine were still alive. We sprinted through the wall, hoping that on the other side was our jump ship, intact.
