Tired Eyes
Hiroki had wondered about his new family. Not so much about the parents who were similar to the ones he had lost but more about his new sister, Yumi. She had been aloof at first but soon it was as if he had been born into the family. That was probably the reason why he could see the stress and fatigue in her eyes when their parents couldn't.
He had dreams often. The sort of dreams where you wake up and start your day and get halfway through before you wake up for real and see it was a dream. However, his dreams usually ended horribly. People were often attacked and nearly died. Once while Yumi was with her boyfriend (even though she never called him that) he had asked his parents if they had dreams like that. They had just smiled and assured him he would grow out of it. But he saw the stress and worry in their eyes.
His old parents had tired eyes. They had a stressful job they never told him about but he could see the circles under their eyes. The circles grew until all he could see was the darkness under their eyes. They were leaving to go on a trip. 'To help reduce stress,' they had said. He had hugged them and they left. At their funeral, he had thought it was the dark circles that had caused them to leave. Those dark circles and tired eyes had shown that his old parents were leaving him.
Yumi had old, tired eyes. Her eyes became more and more tired as time went on and he worried she would be leaving soon. Unlike his old parents, though, Yumi was always alright when she came home. Except one time.
A creature attacked their house while Yumi was at school. A large, red, crab-like creature that shot lasers from its mouth. It had a weird eye design on its head but it didn't seem to have any eyes. It had disappeared when Yumi had returned home only to reappear and hit her with a laser. She collapsed holding her leg. Their father tried to protect her and the monster hurt him as well. The monster moved to make Yumi leave like his parents had left. Then Yumi's boyfriend, Ulrich, had appeared. He wielded the katana his new father had dropped and somehow managed to deflect the lasers. It was amazing. He moved in closer as Ulrich pulled himself onto the monster's head.
Yumi's boyfriend had turned and shouted at him to stay away and that was when he saw it. Ulrich had the same tired eyes. The monster under Ulrich moved and a laser hit the teen. Ulrich fell to the ground and the creature took a step forward.
He knew, as the creature started to move forward, that Ulrich was leaving. The teen had the same tired eyes. He also knew that Yumi was going to leave too. And he knew he wouldn't remember anything as a white light travelled towards him and transformed the world around him.

A/N: Someone on TVtropes suggested that Hiroki might be adopted so I'm playing off that. It seemed like a plausible theory and (most likely) because I kept dying in my Code Lyoko Wii game, my muse acted up. I hope you enjoyed 'Tired Eyes'. Thanks for reading.
