Tears
The knight knocked the sword out of Merlin's hand and aimed his sword at Merlin's gut. Neither Balinor nor Arthur noticed, all too caught up in fighting off the other knights.
The knight thrust his sword into Merlin with a look of satisfaction on his face.
"MERLIN!" Arthur screamed as he fell, silently, to the ground.
Hearing Arthur scream Balinor whipped round and on seeing Merlin shouted "NO!"
In a flash they were both at Merlin's side. His eyes were closed and his breaths were coming in short gasps.
"Merlin? Merlin, can you hear me?" Arthur choked out.
Merlin's eyelids flickered. "Arthur" Merlin whispered.
"I'm here Merlin." The prince answered, tears beginning to build up in his eyes.
"I'm going to die, aren't I?" It was more of a statement than a question. That was when they took a proper look at Merlin's wound. Blood was gushing out at an incredibly fast rate.
"No, you're not. We'll get you back to Gaius...and...and he'll help you." Arthur said through the tears which were now flowing freely from him and Balinor.
Then Merlin's eyes began to drift closed.
"Merlin! Don't you dare fall asleep son!" Balinor cursed his slip of the tongue and prayed Arthur wouldn't notice.
"Son?" Arthur asked, dumbfounded.
"Yes." Merlin breathed " Balinor is my father."
"But...why didn't you tell me Merlin?"
Just then Merlin coughed. And up came blood. His eyes began to drift closed again. "Because I didn't know." It was barely a whisper.
"Don't die on me Merlin! Please! You can't die!" Arthur begged his manservant, no, his friend.
"Sorry Arthur." Merlin gasped "and father..." then he breathed his last breath and went limp.
"No." Arthur and Balinor whispered and for hours they just knelt there and cried.
