Cranky
"Come on, Mackie. Time to take a little nappy nap."
The man in question glared. "I'm not a little kid, Jack."
"Oh really?" He raised a dark brow. "Then why are you acting like one?"
He knew he went too far when something akin to murder flashed in the blonde's blue eyes. "I'm not acting like a little kid! Just leave me the hell alone dammit!"
Jack decided to soften the blow some and wave off the obvious warning to back the hell off. He whistled, both brows raised this time. "Well somebody's cranky this morning…." The Delta sing-songed.
Mac shot him another glare, taking a sip of his now cool coffee. "I am not cranky, Jack. I just want to be left alone. And I would greatly appreciate it if you would!" He added almost as an afterthought.
The brunette shook his head stubbornly, crossing his arms as he got off the couch. "Sorry. No can do, brother." And walked over to the irritated blonde.
"Yes you can! I-! JACK! PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW!" Jack plopped the kid down on the couch a moment later. Mac immediately tried to make a run for it, but Jack was having none of it. The older agent sat down on the couch and wrapped his arms around the wriggling kid, pulling him back to rest against the Delta's chest.
Mac sighed, going still. "Why are you doing this?" He heard Jack smirk into his hair.
"Because you're going to work yourself to death if I don't intervene?" Jack explained it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Which, in reality, it was to him. Apparently, not so much for the blonde though.
"Just relax a while, kiddo. I gotcha. Nothin's gonna happen while I'm here." The older agent finished softly, the promise evident in his words.
Mac's stubbornness kept him awake for as long as he dared. But it quickly diminished when a warm blanket was thrown over him. He felt Jack adjust himself so Mac's head was tucked under his chin and started to gently card his hand through Mac's hair.
"I hate you." Mac muttered sleepily, relaxing in the safety of his partner's hold. He felt more than heard Jack's smile.
"Just close your eyes, kid. I'll be here when you wake up."
And Mac, for once, did as he was told without any further questioning.
