Deep in the heat of the battle, Lauren stood on the edge of the court dripping in sweat. She loved tennis and practiced night and day to be able to compete in this tournament. The match was not going as she had planned. Her opponent was tough. She would stop at nothing to win. Lauren felt like she was using everything she had learned but she still did not even come close to winning, or so she thought. This was the last set and if she wanted to win, she had to stay ahead. The game was tied and she was exhausted. Lauren looked at her opponent who served the ball. The ball came at her so fast; she did not have time to react. 0-15 was the score. "Get your head in the game!" someone in the crowd yelled out to Lauren. Lauren looked up in the crowd then back on to the court. The opponent served again. The ball flew to the opposite corner Lauren was on. She ran as fast as she could while holding out her racket to reach the ball but it was no use. She has missed it once again. She shook her head in disappointment. "C'mon Lauren" she said to herself. 0-30. The third serve came around and she focused her eyes on the ball. It came at her so she ran and hit it. "Yes!" she squealed. The excitement was short-lived for she did not hit it hard enough and the ball hit the net dropping to the ground on her side. Lauren heard the crowd take a big gasp as she hit the ball then she heard them awww as it fell to the ground. 0-40. The opponent served the fourth time and this time they were able to keep it going for about a minute until the opponent put a tricky spin on the ball and it bounced away from Lauren. Game. She had lost. Lauren felt like something was missing. Why could she not do her best out there? The next game started and it was her turn to serve. She served the ball with all her might. The ball crossed the net and landed just outside the court. 0-15. "Ugh!" Lauren grunted. The ball returned to her and it was time to serve again. She looked down at the ground, then up again. Something was different though. It was as if time had slowed down. With her mouth open, catching her breath, she turned her head slowly to look over into the crowd; sweat dripping off her face. They all were cheering and shouting in slow motion, she could no longer hear anybody but still saw everyone's lips moving. It was so quiet; Lauren could hear herself breathing heavily. Maybe the heat was getting to her. She closed her eyes and spoke a prayer. "God, I can't do this without you. Please give me the strength to finish strong." When she opened her eyes, everything rushed back to normal and not a second was wasted. Lauren wiped the sweat from her forehead and was now ready to battle it out. She served the ball and her opponent missed it. The crowd went wild! Lauren smiled and whispered a thank you. 15-15. Lauren served again. She fought and hit the ball every time. Game. Lauren wins. Now it was on to the final game. If she won this, then Lauren won the tournament. Lauren focused all her attention on being smart about hitting the ball. 40-40 Deuce. This was it. Next point wins. The serve came and Lauren hit the ball accurately to the left corner of the opponent's court. Her opponent ran to catch the ball but it was too late; it touched down on the ground. The crowd roared in applause. Cheers from everywhere and standing ovations filled the stands. Lauren jumped in the air with excitement and fist pumped. She had done it. She won! Lauren's family and her boyfriend ran onto the court to surround her in hugs and praise. The referee gave her the trophy. Lauren's dad and boyfriend picked her up and set her on their shoulders. She lifted the trophy in the air and thanked God for giving her that opportunity. It was a magical, movie moment.
