The New Glory-King
Yoko sat in the fluffy chair staring at her cloth-covered knees. She followed the intricate pattern with her eyes, hoping for a distraction. She was being crowned today, beginning the first day of her official reign as Glory-King of Kei.
''Yoko? Keiki told me to tell you to be out in five minutes.'' Rakushun walked into her room cautiously, the breeze ruffling his fluffy gray fur.
She sighed to her rat companion. ''I still don't think I'm ready for this, Rakushun.''
Rakushun frowned. ''You are, Yoko. Keiki wouldn't have chosen you if you weren't the right person for the job.''
''I don't know. I've never had this kind of responsibility before. I mean, yes, I may have been class president Over There, but that's hardly the same as being a king. Will people even accept me as the King of Kei?''
Rakushun sat down in front of her, fiddling with the clothing he was wearing. ''Yoko. You need to stop doubting yourself and start believing the truth: that you will bring wealth and prosperity to the kingdom of Kei. You deserve to be the Glory-King. You are the Glory-King.''
Yoko looked at him intently. ''I know that. I'm just not sure if I can help all these people. What if I don't have enough heart? I'm not human enough to do this, oh, no, I can't—''
Rakushun cut her off. ''No, Yoko. Be quiet. You can do this, we've been though this before. The Ever-King believes in you, Keiki believes in you, I believe in you, the people of Kei believe in you. You are the Ever-King, and you have to believe in yourself. Just give it time, Yoko, everything will work out.''
She nodded, shaking her red hair out of her eyes and taking a deep breath.
''Now, let's go, Yoko, your kingdom awaits.'' Rakushun stood up, turned quickly into a man, and made a dramatic sweeping motion.
''Shut up, Rakushun.'' But Yoko was smiling anyway.
The two of them walked out to where Keiki was waiting.
''Good luck, Yoko.'' Rakushun told her quietly, giving her a light kiss on the cheek.
Yoko blushed and looked down at her feet, muttering back to him, ''Thank you, Rakushun.''
She and Keiki then left to go to the ceremony, Rakushun watching blissfully. He heard the shouts and cheering only minutes later that marked the beginning of Yoko as Glory-King. The beginning of something new and long awaited by the kingdom of Kei. Yoko was the Glory-King, and Yoko would bring change.
Author's Note: So, a quick little thing about Yoko's beginning as Glory-King. And it has a little RakushunxYoko romance... xD.
Like it? Hate it? Think everyone was out of character? Then tell me in a review!
Okay, just to tell people, I know that there are, like, eleven novels that are already written and an anime. But I have only read The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadow book published by Tokyopop, so don't be like "oohh, you're wrong about such and such", since I'm going by what I have read. Also, please don't say I spelled Yoko's name wrong, in the book I read, it's spelled like this.
Thank youuuu.
