Disclaimer: I don't own any of the LOST characters or come up with those wonderful plot twists…wish I did.

Summary: This is a little take on what went through Charlie's head at the end of "The Lost Con" episode.

Author's note: Now, Charlie might be a little out of character. But can you blame the guy for being a little ticked off after being humiliated in front of the entire group who thinks you're crazy and now are back to taking drugs. I didn't think so.

Didn't do it for you

Charlie waited for Sawyer's response. The man before him seemed to retreat into a secret place, where onlyhe was allowed to go. This was a shaky alliance, Charlie knew, between the two outcasts. But he didn't care.

He didn't do it for the drugs.

He didn't do it for Claire.

He didn't do it for Aaron.

No.

He did it for revenge. Charlie wanted to see Locke's face as Sawyer established his new position as sheriff. Truth be told, he was glad Sawyer had possession of the guns. For one, Jack was going crazy but no one else seemed to see that. They just saw Jack as the good-hearted doctor, like he himself did once. Guess, Charlie would have to thank Locke or the Island or even that Creature for letting him see the truth. Jack was crazy, but Charlie thought himself sane. Ironic how everyone switched the two around: Jack the sane, Charlie the nut. If Sawyer noticed the same thing about Jack, Charlie would never know, but at least the hatred toward the doctor was present in those cold eyes.

As for Locke, well, the man thought he was some all-mighty prophet. Sure he had helped Charlie go through drug withdrawal, but ever since Boone died and the opening of the hatch, Locke was getting obsessed with the mystery of the Island. Charlie even heard that Locke found the yellow bush plane by following one of his dreams or visions he had the previous night. So of course, when Charlie had his dream to baptize Aaron, Locke stopped him at all costs from following the dream. Hypocrite.

After his beating and getting kicked-out of the club, Charlie's mind had become numb with truth and hatred. Nothing, not even the offering of the drugs by Sawyer, could pull him out of the coldness. Only seeing Locke expressing his shock and humiliation at being manipulated by Sawyer brought about a little warmth to his broken soul.

"I'm not good, Charlie." Sawyer's blunt tone pulled Charlie out of his ponderings. Somehow, Sawyer's response wasn't anything new. His numb blue eyes studied Sawyer's face. Only a clever demon could play with Kate, Jack and Locke without any of them attacking him in rage. Nodding, Charlie turned to leave, understanding seeping into his soul.

He didn't do it to hurt Sun.

He didn't do it to scare the survivors half to death.

He didn't do it for Jack to help jumpstart his little revolution.

No.

He did to get back at Locke. Charlie felt a sense of pride at how Kate and maybe Jack blamed that ex-cop. She had the motive and became a scapegoat. It was perfect that no one ever thought that maybe it was him, the lunatic of the island. Of course, he had to thank Sawyer for planting the suggestion into Kate's mind. The two outcasts actually made a good team.

Walking away, the ground barely crunching beneath his shoes, Charlie once again merged into the black of the night and became his new dark role as a ghost…an outcast. As he left Sawyer to his ponderings, Charlie found himself comforted at the thought of this shaky alliance. So what if he helped the Devil. Only the Devil understood how he felt and how to please him. Both of them rattled the survivors for self-pleasure. Charlie knew that he too was no longer a "good" guy, if such a thing existed. Oh, well, that was just fine with him.
