A serious conversation
A/N: So…it's been a while. I'm sorry for keeping you waiting. I'm not entirely sure where this chapter's gonna go but I guess we'll see.
It was a quiet day on the TARDIS. Rose was in the library, reading a book on the history of time and space. She hadn't been looking for anything specific, really, she had stumbled across the book and thought it might have some interesting places they could visit.
She hadn't meant to look at anything concerning parallel universes. She really hadn't. But she had. She had thought that she would never see her parents or her little brother or Mickey ever again. She had accepted that. And then she had come across the chapter on travel between universes.
'Travel between universes is possible if at least two time lords are present…' she murmured to herself.
'I see you found it then,' said the Doctor from behind her.
'Doctor! I didn't hear you.' She had been quite startled by his sudden presence.
'Rose, I want you to know I wasn't trying to keep this information from you. I just didn't know how to tell you.'
'It's ok, Doctor. But… I was thinking. Does this mean I can see my family again? Because there's three time lords in this TARDIS.'
'There are four.'
'What? How can there be four?' she was extremely confused. There was her, the Doctor and Astrid. Jack was immortal but that didn't mean he was a time lord.
'He is. Jack. He's a time lord.' She had forgotten that she could share her thoughts with the Doctor. She must have been thinking too loud. 'When you looked into the heart of the TARDIS for the second time you saw what had happened to Jack. You also understood how terrible it was for a person to have to live forever without anyone. And it felt wrong to you. But taking away his immortality would mean that he would die instantly. All the years he had lived would become evident. His real age would show. You couldn't take that. You'd had to say goodbye to your parents and Mickey and Tony, you couldn't lose Jack as well. So you did something that only Bad Wolf could do. You made him a time lord. So, yes, there are four time lords in this TARDIS. And if you want, it would be possible to travel between two dimensions whenever we want. I would just have to make some changed to the TARDIS system.'
'Why didn't you tell me about Jack?' she queried. She could understand why he hadn't told her about the book. She recognized the name of the author. His granddaughter had written the book. She knew why he didn't want to talk about it. But he hadn't told her that she had made her best friend into a time lord.
'Jack himself doesn't know. I wanted to tell him first. But I could never figure out how to tell him. I can't just go up to him and say, "Hey, Jack, you're a time lord now." I wanted to tell him the first day he came back on board, but…'
'But what, Doc?' Jack asked from behind them.
'Jack! Oh god! Jack I'm so sorry. I should've told you. But I thought you might hate the idea of being a time lord.'
'What? Why would I hate the idea?'
'Jack, time lords can feel every moment of time and space, every shift in history, everything that has, will or can happen. Rose willingly took the burden. But you didn't. I thought you might resent us. And really I was worried you might hate Rose. I could deal with it if you hated me. But all Rose wants is for you to live.'
'I don't hate either of you. But I do wish you had told me sooner, Doc. For over a year I've been having these odd dreams about times and places I've never been or even heard of. I've been having odd visions and the last time I felt my pulse I thought I was going to die. I've been going crazy trying to figure out what's wrong with me and I just wish you had told me.'
'I know Jack.'
'Just as long as you promise to tell me next time there's a life altering change to my biology. Now what's this I hear about a parallel universe?'
A/N: that went a bit differently than I thought it would but ok.
