Each stanza is numbered to describe different parts of the story, and due to its unconventional titular character, some stanzas may be arranged differently, but still keeps to the 17-syllable standard in Japanese haikus. 'Nuff said.
The Haikuism of Haruhi Suzumiya
1 It was just one day;
the usual coffee grind and the morning news.
2 And then she came in;
an unconventional girl!
Who's she, anyway?
3 She looked, I'm helpless!
Caught off-guard, tackled and glomped.
What was she doing!??
4 She demanded names;
a profile, a dossier,
"What's your name?" she said.
5 Hideki, maybe?
Keitaro? She'll think I lied!
I know, it's John Smith!
6 Great! As it turned out,
She's leader of this Brigade.
"What brigade?" I asked.
7 SOS Brigade!
Aliens, espers, and some time travelers too!
8 Come join the Brigade!
Saving the world from boredom
One soul at a time.
9 So come one, come all!
Join the SOS Brigade!
Or else you will die.
10 What if you don't join?
"Blatant sexual harassment"
Haruhi proclaimed.
