Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or anything like that. I do have all the books though...Does that count?

I was laying on the cool, dewy grass down by the lake. It was almost midnight and the moon hung eerily overhead, blanketed by thick clouds. Stars peppered the sky, like diamonds on black velvet.

"Do you think somewhere, someone else is staring at the exact same place I am?" I asked.

I loved pondering the imponderable, and questioning life in general. The universe was vast, surely not all questions had an answer.

"Maybe." a voice said, next to me.

A warm hand curled around my own. It was Harry. I stole a glance at him. He was gazing skyward, with a thoughtful expression on his face.

"Do you think things only happen once?" I asked.

"What do you mean?"

"Do you think that a certain event, no matter how unique, could happen somewhere else?"

"I don't know…" Harry said, sounding contemplative.

"How about fate?"

My eyes fell upon one tiny star. It glimmered faintly, as if hiding in amongst the others. A million thoughts raced through my mind, all vying for my attention. I sighed, looking over to Harry.

"What about it?"

"Do you believe in it?"

He cleared his throat. "I suppose. I mean, it has to…doesn't it? What about me? My life."

My life. It was a statement, not a question, and somehow, it hurt me…my heart. I flipped over, onto my stomach and met his green eyes. They looked lost and cold, and I held him close.

"Harry, I'm sorry." I whispered.

He shook his head. "There's nothing to be sorry for." he told me, leaning in and kissing me.

"Do you believe in love?" he asked me.

I laughed. "That's a stupid question. Of course lo-"

He pressed his lips to mine briefly and pulled away.

"Do you believe in love?" he asked again.

"Yes. Love exists. There's proof." I insisted.

"What proof?" he asked simply.

"Love is an emotion that people experience when…"

"When?"

"When…I- they…Love exists!" I exclaimed.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes! I'm positive it's real, because I'm in love!"

"Are you willing to bet your life on it?" he asked me, seriously.

I looked into his eyes. He looked back at me, and I could tell that he meant every word he said.

"What?"

"Because that's what you're doing." he said. "If you don't really love me…"

"I love you!"

"I don't want you getting hurt." he said quietly.

"Harry," I said, "Do me a favour…and shut up!"

He blinked.

"I can take care of myself. I'm a big girl now! I'm not that little kid who blushes and hides behind her mum anymore, I've already faced so much, and I'm prepared to face more. If that's what it takes." I said.

He laid back and looked up to the stars again. A deep sigh escaped from his lips, rising into the cool air. I looked over to the black lake, silent and still.

"I love you Harry." I said.

There was no answer. He looked at me, still laying down, and smiled faintly.

"What if something happens?" he asked, quickly looking back at the stars.

I moved so that I was leaning over at him. Now, he had no choice but to look at me.

"Nothing will happen." I told him, sounding quite confident.

"Something will happen!" he insisted. "To me, to you, to someone. I don't know who. But there's no avoiding it. Trust me, I've tried."

"Shut up and kiss me."

I leaned my whole body into it, and his hands wrapped around my waist.

"Ginny?"

"What?"

"I love you."

"So love exists now?" I smirked.

"Maybe…"
