Wally gazed up through the window into the cloudy night sky. His emerald eyes remained clear despite his old age. They twinkled with amusement as he recalled the days when he could run endlessly on his swift feet.
His room was simple and unadorned. His bed was in the corner, conveniently situated underneath the window. In the corner opposite of his bed was a simple wooden desk and chair. On the wall above was the only decoration, a faded, framed photograph of a young man in red hair and a blonde girl with a large ponytail holding hands, dancing, oblivious to their picture being taken.
Wally's attention was lost to the full moon fading in and out behind the clouds. His mind wandered to a certain girl, whose namesake was the Greek goddess of the moon. Like the goddess, the girl was a fierce hunter, an archer unrivaled, and as beautiful as moonlight. She had a luscious, golden mane and most beautiful, gray eyes he had ever seen.
He remembered their shared moments, their affectionate bickering, their mutual support, and a certain kiss on New Year's Day. His calm complexion darkened as he remembered the disbandment of the Team. He had eventually lost contact with his teammates, with her. He had moved on, married, raised a son and daughter, and watched his grandchildren grow, but he never forgot about his first spitfire. Nor did she forget about him.
The clouds suddenly cleared, and he was bathed with the silver light of the moon. The beautiful, glowing disk filled his vision. Then he closed his eyes for the last time.
