This story was suggested by a fellow SFFII member who thought it was a story from her downloaded file but discovered it was part of her personal noites. She sent the outline and asked me to develop the story. This is My attempt. It's my hope this is not the work of another writer and hope my story is close to the one she envisioned. The characters are in no way associated or should be confused with the characters from S.R and Scandal TV..

This is meant to be an original new story. If anyone identifies it as an already published work please let me know

Fitzgerald Grant Failed to completely read the Bio.

chapter1

Fitz was enjoying a needed late lunch after a busy morning on interviews to replace a retiring staff member. A senior staff member is retiring and he needed a replacement fast. He preferred to hire from within the company but he decided to open the interviews,….. to get fresh blood even for this senior position. He wanted to read the background of the final applicant but not from his stuffy office, thus he was sitting in a park near his office, a file in one hand his favorite food truck sandwich in the other.

Two outside applicants one from within the company. He had interviewed the outside applicants earlier in the day…..,one left the in-house applicant. The inhouse applicant was a 10year employee, …who to Fitz's dismay, had never met. He did not recall the name and he thought he knew all day to day employees especially one who was vying for this senior position to head such an important department. He could not remember meeting this employee at any retirement parties, Christmas parties, conferences or any employee related events. Fitz had studied the bio but saved the photo for last. As he started to flip through the photo pages the conversation of two women who had taken a seat nearby stopped his search. Both were giddy as they discussed a book they were both reading. One salacious comment was followed by another from her companion

"I just want to know who she is."

"or who he is."

"whatever, I love the stories."

"which one?"

"all of them."

From the conversation it seemed the author had just completed the last installation of the recent trilogy. As they talked they were joined by two secretaries from his office who joined the conversation.

Rhetoric conversation ranged from the content of the story to the elusive author, no one had ever seen and no photos were available. He smiled as their conversation veered into mature more intimate content. Which caused more interest from him and he totally lost interest in the remaining applicant. He listened for a time before his phone broke in with the notification of his next appointment to interview, the in-house applicant…. the last one.

Fitz entered his office bypassing a desk where the same book that the ladies were talking about rested ….. He took a quick look, noted the title and author and proceeded to his appointment.

His company was growing and he needed to streamline communication between the related divisions. He needed someone who could act as liaison between his various business interest. His focus was advertising but the business that he would inherit from his father who had inherited it from his father had many unrelated divisions. Fitz needed someone who could work seamlessly within all the divisions….. summarizing the whole company. Someone who could cut through the bottom line. Find companies that would easily mesh with the ever-expanding holdings and jettison those that could be sprung off into independent divisions.

A job that was done for years, and with with precision, by Cyrus Beene who was soon off to head one of the new divisions before he retired. Cyrus suggested one of his assistants replace him. He still had not read his assistant's bio or seen his photo after being distracted at lunch

He was a couple minutes late for the interview but stopped to talk to Cyrus who was standing at the elevator as he exited it.

After the greeting Cyrus asked Fitz if he had read the bio and his recommendation for his replacement which Fitz could not admit he hadn't . He was interrupted by the sun, fresh air and the interesting conversation from the lunch ladies

Cyrus noted," no need to read it you will find this is the perfect replacement."

Fitz had never heard Cyrus speak so highly of anyone and he was really interested to meet this guy. He enters his office and noted a lone female talking to his secretary, Lauren. So how good could this guy be if he was late for the interview

Fitz acknowledged the woman and Lauren and asked if Mr. Pope was delayed.

Lauren gave Fitz a puzzled look as she asked, "Mr. Pope, I think you mean Ms. Pope….this is Ms. Olivia Pope."

Ms. Pope… Cyrus never said the candidate was a woman, in retrospect he never asked.

With a look of embarrassment Fitz dropped his head as Lauren introduced the person she was talking to as his appointment , the in-house applicant …,….. .

Fitz asked for a moment as he scanned through the folder and there was the bio attached to the photo…a photo of the person standing in front of him. The bio he had failed to read the photo he was just seeing.

Fitz, embarrassed extended his hand to the woman standing in front of him…. "Ms. Pope I'm Fitzgerald Grant III would you come with me please. As he took her hand he felt a tingle of electricity run up his arm and then through his body to his feet. The look on her face told him she received the same jolt when their hands touched.

Ok this is a rewrite I hope it better with the edit.
