Disclaimer: I don't own Supernatural. If I did, Sam and Dean Winchester would be my boy toys! drools

Author's note: I finally made myself write this three days after watching the episode the first time. (I just watched it again, and even rewound the end to watch this scene.) Jared and Jensen just tore my heart to pieces watching that final scene. So this came out angsty – and perhaps a little dark at the end.

"This is the way you can save me. Please. I'm asking you to save me."

He could see the how those words tore at Sam's heart and soul. His little brother was too gentle-hearted; wanted to save everybody. Wanted to save himself.

Dean followed him into the kitchen and found him leaning in the doorway shaking, uneasy.

"Sam," Dean said softly.

He could tell Sam didn't want to face him, to face this.

"I'm sorry."

Sam sniffed back the tears Dean could see in his eyes. "No, you're right. She's right."

He wanted to spare him this pain. Sam didn't need this. Not now after everything he'd been through over the past months.

"Sammy, I got this one. I'll do it."

And he would. Dean would do anything for his brother.

"She asked me to."

"You don't have to."

"Yes, I do." The tears were spilling down Sam's cheeks and Dean just wanted to make them stop. Sam tried to sniff them back again. "Please," he said holding out his hand for the gun.

Dean had wanted Sammy to understand what he'd asked him when he made him promise to kill him if he became a monster, but not this way. He never wanted a stain like this on Sam's soul.

He paused, unwilling to let Sam hurt himself by this, but gave him the gun anyway.

Sam looked at him pleading. "Just wait here."

His brother walked away, but paused at the doorway, and looked back at him openly crying before entering the living room.

Dean felt the tear slip from his eye but didn't care. His heart was breaking. Not for Madison, but for Sam. For Sam's own heart break and loss of innocence. For what the future might hold for his Sammy.

He flinched when he heard the gunshot and felt his heart shatter.
