It was late spring when I heard the melodies of a cello and violin duet. I followed the melodies. Beethoven's 4th symphony. (Music for it here!)The notes swirled together. I sat there outside the practice door. My fingers ached for a violin. I haven't played in years. I hummed the main melody. Remembering the night I played it. My fingers mimicked the notes. I sat against the wall. The auditorium. Was it still the same after these years? It's been like 5 years. Sighing I collected my sorry ass of the floor. 5 years since the incident happened. I grabbed my backpack. Sheet music fell out. "Shhhhhhiiiitttt" I hissed underneath my breath. Trying to collect it all.
"Oi, who are you" A rough voice said. I froze. No one was supposed to see me here. I tried to gain confidence by organizing the music.
"I just followed the symphony. Sounded amazing. I must say but dynamics and rhythms could use a little work" I said. Gaining more confidence as I went. He scoffed.
"Who do you think you are. I bet you haven't even played the piece. Yes the piece does need work but who are you to just comment like that" He said scowling even more.
"Hmmm I think my name is Sato Tsuru. Yes I actually played this piece when I was only in junior high." I said. His eyes widened.
"Sato Tsuru" He said shocked. He looked at me astounded. I smiled and put the music i the folder. That's when they finally decided to come save my ass.
"Tsuru-kun you came back! I thought you said you weren't gonna step foot on the Academy soil again" Suga said wrapping his arms around my neck. I sighed.
"I think 5 years was long enough to sit and think. I'm ready to come back to Karasuno" I beamed. "Still have my violin in storage?" I Asked. They nodded. "Well Karasuno, Sato Tsuru is back!" I yelled. 5 long years. I'm finally home.
"Wait I'm confused! Why is Tsuru-kun back I thought she was gone for good" Asahi said. I chuckled.
"I thought 5 years without picking up an instrument is long time. Even for me. I don't know exactly why I'm re enrolling here but something tells me. It's gonna fun!" I said happily.
_a few days later_
I walked into the orchestra room for the first time in years. Nothing changed. It still smells of old weathering instruments. The stands arranged in a semi circle around the conductor. Only the chairs were now posture chairs. I raised my eyebrows. 'Now you change them. AFTER I LEAVE?!' Sighing as I set down my case. I grabbed the key from my chest pocket. I unlocked the case. I stared at the empty case. Giggles erupted throughout the room. "Okay where is my violin?! I don't want to give you guys a concussion from throwing my case at your head." I said.
"I'll give you a hint you hung out there when you had free period's or a really bad day!" Daichi hinted. Practice room #6. I raised an eyebrow. I walked over to the Practice Room. I opened the door. Suga stood there. I sighed.
"This is place is the one place you tolerated people in. Hint it isn't the cafe" Suga said. I growled. Then stalked to the auditorium. I don't want to go on a scavenger hunt just to find my violin. I opened the doors. Noya sat on stage.
"SERIOUSLY?!" I yelled startling him. I let out a huffy breath. "Sorry Noya-kun I really don't want to go on scavenger hunt just for my violin. Seriously 5 years haven't matured you guys at all." I said. He smiled.
"Next hint, sorry! But this hint requires leaving campus. This place is the place you and you know met." He said. I thought. The cafes on campus. So where could.. OMG no not that place. I looked at Noya. He smiled. I walked all the way to the pier. Tanaka stood at the edge. I tapped my foot impatient.
"Oh right a hint! You were their on the day it happened. Yes it does require you to go back to campus." he said. The cafe. I walked over to the cafe. Grumbling. Not how I wanted to spend my day off to meet the new players. Sighing I walked into the cafe. I sat at my normal booth.
"Dumbass you know she is just coming back! She might be overwhelmed by your questions" Came the voice from earlier
"I know but she's basically an alumni she's our senpai!" A voice yelled. Clearly frustrated. I chuckled. 'I don't think I'm much older than you guys. I did graduate early' I thought.
"I don't think she'll understand you and you're idiot blabber." A voice came. How many new players are there?!
"Nice one Tsukki!" Another voice said. Snickering. A waiter set down my caramel frappe. I didn't even order! I sent a grateful smile.
"Oi first years"I said. Sipping at my frappe. They saw me. I gestured for them to sit. I was hit with a wave of questions and 'DUMBASS'. I smiled. "Ok let's start with names." I said.
"Hinata Shoyo!" Hinata said. Orange hair and brown honey eyes. "I play the violin" He said. I smiled.
"Kageyama Tobio. Cello." he said. So that's his name. Well noted that his name isn't Mr. Scowlpissypants. Well that's gonna be his nickname. Maybe I'll throw 'King' in there.
"Tsukishima Kei. Viola." A tall blond said." I sipped at the frappe. I wasn't gonna lose in the salty war. We glared at each other. He looked away. I gave a silent victory.
"Hi my names Yamaguchi Tadashi. I play the piano" Yamaguchi said. Shy type huh. I gave a soft smile. We talked about everyone's talents. Turns out there's a concert next week. Good thing I collected my music from them. They asked about the solo. I waved them off. Solo's were a surprise. I don't even know what I'm gonna do.
"You make it up on the spot?!" They yelled. Looks and me going red. I chuckled awkward. People found one my greatest held secret.
"I've done for all my performances. No one has been able to tell. So I just go with the flow. If I try memorizing my solo. Night of the concert it goes right to shit. I have a video actually." I said pulling out my phone. I unlocked it. I went to my gallery. I pulled up the video. I let them watch. Cringing. Worst. Night. EVER! They handed back my phone. I shut it off and put it back into my pocket. "Yea… So that's why I make one up in the heat of the moment. But the thing is I can never play the same solo twice. Even if we play the piece again. It's always different. That's how I was named a 'Prodigy'. Eat my rosin Shiratorizawa!" I said.
"They didn't accept you? You would think that they would want someone like you!" Kageyama said. I blushed.
"I wasn't that good back in the day. But I've picked up something some fancy prep school can't teach." I said.
"What can they possibly teach you. Your so damn perfect while playing" Tsuuki said. Yamaguchi looked at him. Shocked.
"Why thank you Salty blonde bitch." I said. He rolled his eyes and pulled his headphones on.
"So how old are you? All the senpais call you -kun." Hinata asked. I laughed. They looked at me weird.
"Oh. You're serious. 16 years old. " I said. They stared at me. "See I'm not much older than you guys. I just graduated when you were still in Junior High. I would say you guys would've been 3rd years then." I explained.
"Making you a second-" I cut Tsukki off. Giving him a glare. I will interrupt if I know information is wrong. Especially if it's about me.
"4th year. I'm re enrolling in the year I dropped out in." I said irritated. The eye twitching began.
"That would mean you also skipped a few grades" He said. I nodded slowly. Letting it sink in that I'm practically a genius. I graduated at 14 years old. Skipped a lot of years. Dropped out. Re enrolled. Now explaining why I'm a 4th year at the Academy and orchestra.
"Wow you're practically a genius! Can you tutor me? I really need the help!" HInata asked. I smiled and nodded.
"Oh they texted me the hint. Here it is: "YOu were here earlier." Yamaguchi said. Orchestra room. Goddammit you guys. I knew this would happen.
"Gotta go. Oh if you hear screaming. Do not go and help it's most likely me." I said. Getting up and drinking the rest of my frappe. I threw it away. I ran to the music building. Taking a left turn at the fork hallway. A right turn at the weird sign and I'm here. I threw open the door.
"Welcome back!" Came the corus of yells. I jumped back not expecting that. I laughed. Well nice to know I'm back for real.
"I was waiting for the party." I said. Knowing our orchestra. We never are serious until our concerts. Then we our seriousness comes from an unknown source. Especially when the battle of the orchestras come around. This year for sure we'll make it past first round. This year.
"Well you came earlier then what we expected. So we had to set up something. This was the only answer. Sorry we know how much you hate scavenger hunts." Suga said. Very much so.
"Please tell me my violin is in its case. Dampit wet. Strings cleaned. Rosin replenished. Basically anything." I said. They all nodded. Welcome back me.
