She's different. She looks different, but it's the eyes that shock him. They're cold, showing no emotion. She doesn't smile anymore. He wants to hold her and tell her that she'll pull through. Like she told him. He wants to kiss away the pain, but knows she's too far gone. He wants to help her, but he simply doesn't know how.

"Rory?" Jess asked, trying to understand what she was doing on his doorstep in the middle of the night. Not that he minds, He's just curious.

She's breathing raggedly and she's soaking wet. It had been raining that night. 'Why would she walk in the rain and get herself drenched?' She's wearing a fancy cocktail dress. She's shaking because of the cold and he invites her in. He doesn't know why she's there, but frankly, he doesn't care; she's here and that's all that matters. He lets her sleep. He can wait until the morning to get his questions answered.

He wakes up and starts making breakfast as she walks in. He smiles. She's wearing his clothes and looks absolutely adorable.

"Hi." Rory said timidly. She doesn't smile, but he knows she's trying to. He appreciates the gesture.

"Hey" Jess acknowledges her. He smiles at her and it's almost there, the smile that he wishes he could see.

She fiddles with her fingers. She's nervous, because she knows he wants answers.

"Want to tell me why you're here?" Jess suggested. Tears well up in her eyes as she seemingly remembers something.

"Logan asked me to marry him." Rory stated bluntly. He stops moving and turns around to face her slowly. Her eyes are glazed and she's completely motionless. Fragile.

"Huh." Jess sighs. He doesn't want to hear her fairytale. Not when he doesn't get to have a happily-ever-after with her.

"And I said no." Rory says quietly. He feels a jolt of happiness rush into his heart. She's not marrying the asshole after all!

"But why?" Jess asks. He didn't mean for it to sound so happy.

"Because, he likes to eat ice cream out of a bowl." Rory says and for the first time, looks him in the eyes. Her eyes are mesmerizing.

Rewind. 'Did she just say what he thought she did?' But then the anger kicks in. She just barges into his life and expects him to welcome her back! She already tore his heart out once and he wasn't going to let it happen again.

"So what? You just come here when you're tired of him? It doesn't work that way, Ror. I love you, but we'll never work. I can't offer you what he can." Jess mutters the last part. Somewhere along his rant, she moved next to him and started running her fingers through his hair. It felt good.

"That's why I'm here. When he showed me the ring last night, I finally figured it out; He could never offer me what you can. I'd rather have a poor life with you than a life of luxury with him. I was living a lie and I had to get out. I don't care about him or his money. I care about you." Rory whispered into his ear.

His heart was beating so quickly that he felt like he was about to have a seizure.

"Are you serious?" Jess asked quickly. He needs to know. He can't lose her again.

"You're my Prince Charming, Jess." Rory says.

"That's a first." Jess snorts. Rory jabs him in the ribs, causing him to laugh.

"You're ruining the moment!" She tries to sound serious, but he knows she's fighting back a laugh.

"Sorry." He murmurs against her neck, making shivers run down her spine.

Jess pulls her close to him and hugs her tight, never wanting to let go. He can't see her face, but he knows; she's smiling again.
